Cordelia is so fun! She's the perfect balance to the team's snarkiness. Also, I find it hard to imagine Kevin with frosted tips. Were you also rocking the puka shell necklace?

Regarding the characters retaining their likability: Buffy is a lot like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, in that most - if not all - of the characters will REALLY test the limits of your patience! It's part of the reason this show is such a good fit for you two, I know you'll treat the characters and story arcs with the nuance they deserve. And Kevin, that 'heeeey brother' really caught me off guard 😂

Traditionally... zombies were a voodoo creation and were made to basically be undead servants. They didn't eat flesh or brains. It wasn't until Night of the Living Dead that they ate flesh... and not until 80's movies that they ate brains.

Thanks! It's the line I use more from Arrested Development than any other so far. I do enjoy shows with more complex characters like this and CXG. It's more fun, enlightening, and cathartic to have to wade through some gray areas with characters.

$80 for snacks at a high school game in the late 90s? I'd be surprised if it was more than $10.

S2 brings us co-composer Christophe Beck, who's gone on to a major career scoring films. He won an Emmy for Buffy. This episode I find very underrated; the dialogue is great throughout, Charisma Carpenter is fantastic (many actresses could play the hot self-involved cheerleader, but she brings something much more to it), and Buffy & Angel have such a tender scene... "He gets to see you in the sunlight." Awwwww!

I know this is one of the "lower tier" episodes, but I still love it. And here's another "Universal monster" checked off the list. Last season we had Invisible Man (well, Girl) and of course Dracula is a given with the ubiquitous vampires. Now we get Bride of Frankenstein. [rot13 for spoilers] V'z cerggl fher gurl'yy trg gb nyy bs gubfr rkprcg Cunagbz bs gur Bcren. LOVE Cordelia in this! The reveal with the arm in the dumpster is an all-timer. I love that she's becoming more involved in the Hellmouth shenanigans. I was glad you guys noticed the change in music for this season. Early episodes are heavy on the synth, but this episode's (and last episode's) music feels a lot more mature and emotional. And yes, the fight choreography is much improved as well. [one last rot-13] Arkg jrrx, l'nyy. Oybaqvr Orne vf pbzvat gb gbja!

I'm delighted to confirm that rugby is fairly popular in the USA nowadays, with Major League Rugby teams across the country, we're about 2/3 through the regular season. (Go Sabercats!) I'm told that rugby is popular with the US Marines, who prefer not to smother their virility under 40 pounds of protective gear.... 🤩

I have SO MANY thoughts about this episode, because Frankenstein is one of my favorite books (despite Victor Frankenstein being My Enemy™). I think they did a good job translating the story to the screen, especially saying that the first thing Daryl said when he came back was that chris shouldn't have done this. My favorite quote from Frankenstein is from the creature, and he said: "'Hateful day when I received life!' I exclaimed in agony. 'Accursed creator! Why did you form a monster so hideous that even you turned from me in disgust?God, in pity, made man beautiful and alluring, after his own image; but my form is a filthy type of yours, more horrid even from the very resemblance. Satan had his companions, fellow devils, to admire and encourage him, but I am solitary and abhorred.'" He was brought to life against his own will, given a monstrous form so that no one would even try to know him (thereby dooming him to a life of unbearable solitude), and since he is the only being with such a visage, he doesn't even have other such creatures to mourn his existence with. This is why, both in the book and the show, the creature demands that his creator at least make one companion for him, so that he might not be alone for the rest of his days. The main difference is that chris (and even eric, even though he sucks so bad) are way more sympathetic characters than victor Frankenstein. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTjBkb895/

Side note: my biggest beef with most Frankenstein adaptations is that they always refer to "Dr. Frankenstein," but that man is not a doctor, he's a collegs dropout who eschewed the actual science of the time bc he was obsessed with the old alchemists. 🙄 I could rant for HOURS about how much i hate that man (and i have)

Jamie Morgan

I love that line! It turns an episode of pettiness into the truth: Angel isn't jealous of Xander, he's bitter about his own existence.

Hey, Jim Brown is considered one of the greatest rugby players in American university history. It's a legitimate demonstration of athletic skill and prowess!

Id say it's more medium tier imo, especially compared to s1. Not that i dislike s1, but i see this episode as a kind of step up from previous monster of tbe week eps, while still being true to the spirit of them. Yes, there's way better coming up, but i would argue against folks who call this low tier

Youtalkingtome

Yeah, I (Kevin) thought that was a high estimate as well. But who buys flag merch at a high school football game?

To me, it feels like the music, fight choreography, jokes, as well as the character-building arcs have all been stepped up this season! This will continue. It’s been at least 15 years since I’ve watched this show, and I’m loving revisiting it with your 2025 perspectives! It’s nice that you guys have enough appreciation of older horror schlock and low budget stuff that the dated effects aren’t much of an issue.
