I am SO happy you're watching The Bear!!!! Thank you, guys!!!! One of the greatest ensemble casts since The West Wing.

Man... Watching ep 1 again after the first two seasons is crazy knowing how the story progresses. I'm looking forward to rewatching with you.

Oh wow – so excited to watch along, I’ve been meaning to see this! Agreed, the manic energy and mile-a-minute dialogue is fantastic. Once upon a time, I had a summer gig as a cook – not a restaurant, I was more like a glorified lunch lady working in a mobile kitchen (long story) – but we dealt with things like surprise shortages and equipment breakdowns constantly. I don't know about you guys, but I can feel the flashbacks kicking in already, lol. Also, did Richie say he was thankful for Phillip K. Dick? Amazing.

Whatever else was on the list, this was the right choice.

I went so quickly from "Ritchie should be shown the door immediately" to "okay, Ritchie might be my favorite character." Such good writing.

I think you should wait until S3 of Severance drops before starting that (amazing) show, should be around 12-18 months from now.

Roland

So what are your backgrounds in the food service industry, sounds like this episode brought back some memories. 🤩

Hey Thanks for starting this show! Good timing too since Season 4 was just announced for June 25th and might be the last season. Enjoy!

I'm so excited for you to watch this show. It annoys me when I hear people call this a show about a restaurant because it's so much more than that. For me it has been an emotional experience and when art moves you, it's doing its job.

Jennifer

I love, love, love that Joe recognized Matty Matheson! This show has a lot of cameos from chefs, restaurateurs, and actors.

90% of this episode was filmed at Mr. Beef in Chicago. (I believe all future episode restaurant scenes were shot on a soundstage.) The owner of Mr Beef is Chris Zucchero, the childhood friend of Christopher Storer, the series creator. Chris Zucchero plays Chi-Chi on The Bear. He was the guy in the parking lot that Carmy traded his Levi's to for the cooler of meat.
