The Lord of Light following is actually FROM Essos BTW. And the time to travel by boat from Sunspear (Dorne's capital) to King's Landing is about 9-10 days. There's a nice little site for all distances in Westeros (the seven kingdoms) and in Essos (Meereen and Slaver's Bay, Vaes Dothrak, the Free Cities like Volantis, Braavos and Pentos, and many other provinces) by land or sea. https://www.worldanvil.com/w/got-rewritten/a/travel

Melisandre (The Red Woman) was born about 100 BC (before Conquest) in Asshai, in far east of Essos. She's about 400 years old during the events of A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones series)

I only recently realized this, but the Waif, who torments Arya, is portrayed by the same actress as rebel leader Vel from Andor. I honestly hate the whole Dorne storyline. It feels like they didn't know where to take it and it ended up a massive waste of time. Neither Prince Doran nor the Sand Snakes are interesting to me. It's such a shame because in the books, Doran Martell is super interesting - he's sort of a mastermind like Varys, whereas here he's just one more feckless noble whose death is about as meaningless as it gets.

After seeing this scene it's kind of wild to think back on the men we've seen her seduce and sleep with. Like, imagine going to bed with the young version and waking up next to the old one...

I've tried over and over to tell Joe and Kevin that Andor is a special show they have to watch ;-) Joe: Last week, you answered about Game of Thrones that "I now understand the hype. I refused to watch the show for so long because I was stubborn. I'm really jealous I missed out on such a great time" Well, I'm sorry about what I'm about to say, but I think you're pretty much doing the same mistake on Andor IMO. Just a little information that could help you guys decide to listen to all of us this time ;-) IMDB rating (top 10 shows for Andor) S2 Ep8 9.8/10 (19k votes cast) S2 Ep9 9.7/10 (17k votes) S2 Ep10 9.6/10 (12k votes) S2 Ep12 9.6/10 (12k votes) S1 Ep10 9.5/10 (24k votes) S2 Ep11 9.5/10 (11k votes) S1 Ep12 9.2/10 (19k votes) S1 Ep6 9.1/10 (21k votes) S2 Ep6 8.8/10 (10k votes) S1 Ep3 8.6/10 (20k votes) To compare: West Wing top 5 episodes Two Cathedrals 9.7/10 (3.9k votes) Noël 9.4/10 (2.1k votes) Shadow of 2 gunmen part1 9.4/10 (2k votes) Shadow of 2 gunmen part2 9.3/10 (1.7k votes) The Supremes 9.2/10 (1.3k votes) I hope this will give you guys a bit of perspective about that show. My best way to staple it: Forget Star Wars... it's a John le Carré or Robert Ludlum type story, but set in the Star Wars universe!

Westeros's geography is basically Great Britain but blown up to the size of Brazil, but King's landing is pretty far south as well so it's a lot closer to Dorne than it is to say Winterfell. The site Yannick linked gives about 1500 miles from Dorne's capital Sunspear to King's Landing, looks like a bit under 1000 miles in a straight line but there's a lot of geography to navigate around so 10 days makes sense, which lines up fine with the timing of the two storylines between this episode and the last. Of course this whole setting doesn't line up cleanly with any one period from our real history, so when you ask how fast a sailing ship could make a given voyage the question becomes, do you mean a late-19th century clipper ship that could cross the Atlantic in 12 days or do you mean medieval sailing ships that took several times that long just to cross the Mediterranean (more equivalent to the Narrow Sea in this show).

The show did a massive disservice to Doran and the whole Dornish plotline. He’s a much more interesting character in the books, and the entire Dorne story is completely different. I kept waiting for the show to give us this speech of his, but they just killed him instead: “I am not blind, nor deaf. I know you all believe me weak, frightened, feeble. Your father knew me better. Oberyn was ever the viper. Deadly, dangerous, unpredictable. No man dared tread on him. I was the grass. Pleasant, complaisant, sweet-smelling, swaying with every breeze. Who fears to walk upon the grass? But it is the grass that hides the viper from his enemies and shelters him until he strikes.”

I forgot how much this sucked. I didn't really like the Dorne plotline in the books either, but at least Doran wasn't oblivious of what was going on in his kingdom like in the show. He played the game well but did get outplayed by circumstance, he still had some pretty clever backup plans but we never saw them come to fruition in the books and those whole plotlines were never even mentioned in the show. Overall waste of some talented actors especially Alexander Siddig, and took some of my least liked plotlines from the later books and made them worse.

I do really like the Sparrows as a concept, that was one of the highlights of season 5 for me. Like what they're doing has awful consequences, I especially don't want Margaery and Loras to suffer at their hands, they did nothing wrong, and I have some empathy for what even Cersei went through in their custody awful as she is... but the Sparrows were the first time we've seen the "common" people really rise up against the atrocities and excesses of the noble houses of this world whose wars have been fought at the expense of regular people more than anyone. Random thought, but Michiel Huisman (Daario) is pretty good at accents. He's a Dutch actor but I thought he did a very good American accent in The Haunting of Hill House, I noticed his accent a few times but I don't think I would even have noticed it if I didn't already know he was Dutch. So I'm curious how good or bad his English accent is for this show if any of the Brits on here have thoughts on it. I have a similar question about Nikolaj Coster-Waldau's English accent as a Danish actor, he's also done a decent American accent in one other show. While even as an American I don't find Peter Dinklage's English accent convincing especially in the early seasons, less so than I'm convinced by these Danish and Dutch actors doing American accents.

My memory of this show blurs this episode together with the next one, so I was also surprised when the credits rolled, I thought more was coming. We still got to see Doran's end and Sansa's rescue, though, and there's plenty more to come this season.

Do you know that the Dorne Palace is real ? it has been filmed in Andalusia (South Spain) , at the royal Alcazar of Seville, including for the garden scenes. very few VFX. A great place to visit

Oh I forgot, Joe: "Who is this woman, I just know her as weird naked lady" Red Woman: *immediately gets naked for no reason*
