Buffy2 5

Just to clarify, a few eps (like Inca Mummy Girl, if I recall, and possibly Reptile Boy too) were drafted during S1 but saved until S2; but they were NOT filmed early or out of sequence. Every ep was done in normal TV production schedule, airing some weeks after filming. (A few airings in S3 got delayed, but more on that later.)

- I love that Angel gets so upset about Buffy being in danger that he involuntarily vamps out. - This is a decent "candy" episode. I've seen people rag on the cheesy monster, but I think it looks pretty cool, and I like when we get original monsters. - On a superficial note, Buffy's outfit for most of the episode with those giraffe print pants is one of the worst looks she has in the whole show. It's actually distracting how bad it is.

The image of a bunch of douche, rich frat bros getting their wealth and power by worshiping a giant, phallic shaped demon is a little on the nose but a solid monster of the week episode regardless. Cordelia was gold in her scenes. It's good they're giving her more to do this season. Charisma is great at comedic acting.

Fun Fact: the demon's name being Machida is based on the Makita drills that the grips carried. So, the giant demon is snake is, in fact, a tool.

Thanks! You'd think, then, that Inca Mummy Girl could have gotten a wee bit of a rewrite before shooting.

Yeah the metaphor in this is so surface level it’s hard to even call it a metaphor. Minus the demon, this is unfortunately just the reality of so many frats (though not all). Xander is much better in this one I agree and I feel like when they keep it at this level it seems like age appropriate awkward lust. However the one thing that trips me up this episode is Tom, the lead “nice guy” bro. He unfortunately looks exactly like a younger Christopher from Gilmore Girls, and it weirds me the eff out. (It isn’t the same actor btw, just looks alike)

The metaphor may be on the nose, but it ends with a bunch of rich people losing their fortune and killing themselves, so...I don't care! Happy ending all round! You'll definitely start to notice which episodes are holdovers from season 1 and which ones are season 2 originals - could be a fun game to play!

That's a great idea! I will give it a shot on the next one! And yeah, my reaction was "what a happy ending."

Xander is a complicated character. My opinion is colored by the fact that noss whedon said xander was basically his self-insert character, and since he ended up being a piece of garbage who treated his cast and crew incredibly poorly at best, and in abusive ways at worst. So for me my opinion of xander is kind of like, sometimes you're kind, brave, heroic, and funny, but sometimes you're so sexist, mean, downright rude, and a bit of a sex pest (feel free to google that phrase), and that sometimes makes it harder to appreciate his good sides Im the same way with joss whedon, only since he's a real person, it's an easier decision - he created a phenomenal piece of media that still resonates with so many people today, but if the people he harmed had expressed a wish for people not to give him money by watching it, i would listen to them. Luckily, so much of the cast and crew love the buffyverse, the characters, and the story so much, and im glad to be there with them Sorry for the book i wrote lol 😂

I totally agree, I can see him being the Joss stand in. He's always had this annoying quality to me. Still a fan of this show and The Avengers films but Joss seems like a real tough hang

The monster was sick! Really loved its design and the practical effects work. I am currently typing this while wearing giraffe print pants so.....sorry?

Great Ted Talk!
