This is the first really great episode in the series - the kind of episode that if I'm channel surfing, and come across it I stop watch it.

Chris Warner

I think this episode is where the show really hits it stride and with only a few exceptions has very good to great episodes for the rest of the season and pretty much the entirety of season 3.

James Roberts

Great comedy episode. Nice to see that when others are out of commission, Willow really stepped up to the plate in a leadership role. Also starting to get some intriguing hints into Giles' possibly dark past.

Every Halloween, somebody mentions this episode in conjunction with how they picked out their Halloween costume...

This week compared to last week is a great comparison of season 1 “monster of the week” and season 2. The season 1 episodes while fun can be skipped because most of the time there wasn’t any plot or real character development while this week you had a problem of the week while still moving the story along.

I cant wait for you both to see more, now that you have had a minute or two to think about it, I am curious, do y'all have any theories on Giles' backstory?

I LOVE this episode!! Giles has a past. I agree with the other person who said this is where the show really starts to find its long term stride and next few episodes really cement the issues the show is dealing with. So excited to keep watching! And for the record, Anthony Stewart Head is definitely a babe!

Like others have said, this is a great episode. It's works as a fun standalone and the monster of the week metaphor is pretty strong. Love Dru's set up with, "Do you love my insides as much as you love my outsides?" for the shadow self/insecurities. We still get our main villains and flesh out Giles, in fact, we get a bit of insight and growth with all the scoobies! And it's one of the best examples of 'The plot of this Buffy ep would work as a standalone movie'
