- Love this episode and the backstory on Giles. I think I especially love the moment when Cordelia asks "Why did he call him Ripper?" and then says "Oh" after Giles manhandles Ethan. - The photo is *partially* real. It's Anthony Stewart Head's head but pasted on Sid VIcious's body. - Now seems a good time to share this photo (https://i.redd.it/why-did-no-one-tell-me-anthony-stewart-head-played-dr-frank-v0-6rnrmhzgredb1.jpg?width=535&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=addf944833933f1a8655c2b244144a0c5d9cacc3). He was a fairly beloved Frank N Furter in the Rocky Horror community. A quick Google search will get you to a recording of him singing "Sweet Transvestite."

Something that was pointed out to me about Cordelia in this episode that I always think about when i watch it. In Halloween, everyone tried to explain to Cordy that Angel was a vampire, with no success. Considering the fact that she didn't freak out when seeing him get possessed and kill the demon, I'm guessing it was proven to her that Angel's a vampire since their Halloween adventure.

All the talk about early British punk rock in this episode (comparing Spike and Drusilla to Sid and Nancy, then saying Giles probably likes The Clash) reminded me of the tidbit I heard that Anthony Head actually helped James Marsters to learn Head's own native accent to play Spike. Marsters is American but from what I've heard he's doing a pretty convincing North London accent here (I'm American too so can't judge the quality of a fake British accent unless it's REALLY bad), while Head is doing more of a posh accent as Giles. rot13: Ab, fnqyl Zf Pnyraqne qbrf abg unir cybg nezbe ng nyy.

One of my favorite times in the series, this era when we learn of Giles' dark past. Tony Head got a real chance to shine in this episode, I love his performance. The rockstar photo sorta alludes to his London stage career including rock musicals; his brother Murray Head did likewise and was a charting solo artist as well.

I am glad we get Giles' backstory so quickly after it is teased. I feel like most shows would have drawn out this secret for like 3 seasons building it up before revealing something very anti-climactic. Instead this show does it a mere two episodes later, and reveals its not nearly as bad as we originally think, but it paints GIles in a new light to know he was a former punk rocker and occultist who summoned demons just to get high. I love that he is a fan of rock and punk, but hates anything newer than that. As if the Sex pistols have any semblance of notes or melody in their songs (I love the sex pistols, but trained musicians they were not) You just know that GIles was in the same crowd as Joe Strummer, Siouxsie Sioux, and Sid Vicious. In fact in my head canon he definitely had a one night stand with Siouxsie Sioux. Jenny looks just like a young Siouxsie without the intense eyeliner. Also sorry boys, you arent half way through this season, in fact you are just over a 1/3 of the way through.

To be honest, I'm not a big Sex Pistols fan. I do love that Giles was in the punk scene too. It's really poignant that his sins of the past are coming for not only him but the group too.

I'm having a blast rewatching this show with you guys! 👍

I'm so glad this episode didn't go trope-y with Giles and Jenny at the end - I remember expecting Giles to end it 'for her own good' when I first watched it, but Jenny instead being the one who wants some space is way better, very realistic. Also, am I crazy or are the SFX *really* good this episode? I've never really noticed before, but considering how many lingering shots there are on the demon faces, I was expecting it to look more '90s', but it actually really holds up! (Outside of the turning-into-puddles stuff, that does look a bit 90s lol)

I really like Jenny Calendar. The actress Robia LaMorte used to be part of Prince's Diamonds and Pearls dance team and appeared in several of his videos. She quit acting after becoming a born again Christian.

A question for the commenters: is anyone watching the series for the first time along with the reaction videos? I'm always so glad to see how many new viewers this show attracts almost 30 years after it first aired ☺️

Fun fact: Robia LaMorte and Charisma Carpenter are the same age!

I watched bits and pieces of Buffy at the time and over the years, (never seen the movie), but never followed it properly and it's mostly completely fresh to me so far. I watched most (all?) of Angel when it came out. I thought it was excellent, except for when it very wasn't on occasion. I certainly expected Buffy to be underwhelming (stupid-camp, etc) when seen through 2025 eyes. But I'm very pleased to say that I've shared J&K's delight with Buffy so far, the writing and the casting is excellent, and the SFX aren't biting off more than they can chew.

The effects are really solid. I also like the choice of Jenny ending things. That does feel way more realistic than Giles putting things on hold.

On the topic of expecting characters to catch on right away - I really appreciate that Joe pointed out that Miss Calendar had made no bones about (bad pun) her wanting to make Giles "squirm" later. It kind of seemed like Kevin initially thought Giles should have realized she was possessed just because she was coming on to him.
