The commander who gave Kima the homicide case looked bad this episode. That’s because the actor who was another local was near death. David told him to come by if he was having a good day and he had him read what were Rawls and Jays lines to give him one last paycheck for his family. He passed away before the season aired.

I’ve been thinking about this show a lot this week because the current governor of Maryland is eyeing a presidential run so all of a sudden he has started to care about issues that people have been on him about since he got elected to build a string of “accomplishments “and good press.

You are completely right about the Way Baltimore mayoral politics works. The main election is the Democratic primary and the general is a formality so much so that inauguration day has been moved up to only a couple weeks after the general election.

Honestly, the best thing Press could do in that classroom is to try and adapt to be as much like one of the guys as he can. I went to a school like this when I was about the age of the kids on the show half the teachers didn’t try to teach and just showed us the same three Disney movies over and over one teacher made all the lessons about her relationship troubles, and a foreign language teacher actually tried to teach by having a competition for who could cuss her out the best in a foreign language. at least it got the kids to crack the foreign language dictionaries. The school had a reward, that at the end of eighth grade, any kid that hadn’t gotten suspended during their time at the school got an all expense paid weekend in New York City. My year, 18 of us out of the school of 1800 went on the trip

You want it to be one way. I love that bit because it's such a succinct, terrifying, and total refutation of any belief in justice, or morality, or anything other than absolute power at the barrel of a gun. On the flip side, Bunk just destroys me in this episode. Jimmaay! JIMMAAAAY!!

your joke about the guys asking if they could just give the mayor money and leave the card game gave me a laugh. my friend had a similar joke in one of her stand up sets about being asked to be a bridesmaid: “can i just write you a check for $700* and we’ll skip the bouffant and the dress i ‘can totally wear again’?” *not adjusted for inflation - was around 12 years ago, so it’d probably be at least a grand now.

The thing with the store security guard is such a perfect way to illustrate that as much as Avon and Stringer's belief in the "honor" and rules of the game was hollow and they could be very petty themselves, Marlo doesn't even pretend to believe in honor and is so much pettier. Scarier too because you never know what he'll take as a slight worth killing you over, but also more of a manchild in that way. Omar though does have a code, he killed the one guy who was with Stringer because he WAS in the game but I don't think there was any chance he would have killed the (corrupt but not in the drug game) contractor dude you said was lucky to be alive.

It's wild how this show applies to today. It's what, 20 years old? It holds up perfectly and it makes me sad that things are more or less the same seemingly

Yeah, Baltimore definitely doesn't seem like a city where Newt Gingrich would be a winning candidate (and I mean that in a good way).

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite days of the week! This season hits me all kinds of ways and you guys are just ramping.

Sidnor. Great character, great actor, but so far without much of a storyline.
