I love how unsubtle the old fairytales used to be: "And one day, around puberty, your girl will be cursed to bleed unexpectedly and you'll have to lock her up until marriage!" Or "Bad predators in the woods will tell you that it's safe to get in bed with them, but don't do it or bad things will happen!" There's a new movie, Ugly Stepsister, that explores the original story of Cinderella, where the stepsisters cut part of their feet in order to try to fit into the shoe, and ties it to body horror and beauty standards. I haven't seen it yet, but it sounds really interesting!

(Also, yes, the recent Maleficent movie with Angelina Jolie is one of those modern Disney live actions where they try to humanize villains, like Cruella. It doesn't really work and it makes the fairytale nonsensical in return, imo.)
