And a special thank you to Patreon for picking a thumbnail with my eyes and mouth closed. I appreciate them using my headshot for my Law & Order corpse audition.

I grew up watching Disney movies and tv shows in the late 60s and early 70s, but I've never seen this one! So thanks for the opportunity. It's quite impressive.

This was my favorite of the “Princess” movies growing up. I have a huge love for the Walt era Disney films. I might have to pick a few of the live action to sprinkle into the request queue. This movie experimented with a new version of animation to give it a different look then Snow White. Everything was hand drawn back then.

Maleficent is the live action remake of this and kicked off the era of churning those out. This movie is notoriously least popular for the reasons I like it. It’s darker visual style and storytelling. We did a watch along to Maleficent on another channel Thursday and I was the only one who had seen the original.

How is this uncut version different than the other one? Is there a second version of Sleeping Beauty that I'm unaware of? Sorry, I'm just a bit confused.

Oh my god, Jonathan, you're cheating on us with another channel?! Just kidding. I have never seen any of the live action remakes, but at least Maleficent sounds like it isn't just a complete remake with no interpretive changes, unlike what people say about the others.

Thanks! For sure, this is visually VERY different from Snow White. I loved the aesthetic look of this a great deal (the incredible detail of the set drawings contrasted against the flat, vibrant images of the characters).

This is my favourite of the classic era of Disney movies. The gorgeous backgrounds, the scary-to-a-kid villain, the fun prince, the colour-changing dress…. It all worked for me. Until The Little Mermaid it was the highlight of Disney.

I agree. I thought, aesthetically, that while it didn't have the same kind of cultural impact with its music, it was a visual improvement on Snow White.

If you'll remember, in Gilmore Girls, season 1, when Lorelai invites Dean over for a movie night before he's dating Rory, Lorelai says that Rory had a crush on Prince Charming, and Rory butts in and says not the one from Snow White, the one from Sleeping Beauty. Dean then finishes her sentence "yeah, because he could dance... I have a sister." I remember yelling "YES!" the first time I watched that part lol, that dancing scene definitely had a lot of little girls swooning, me included lol

The music is from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Ballet

My favorite animated Disney movie is Fantasia. It was extraordinary for its time, and if you’re a classical music lover or a classical music novice, it’s wonderful. I think it’s Walt Disney’s greatest gift to the arts. The best part is you don’t have to watch it all at once. You can watch it in pieces.
