Loved the season long slow burn on figuring out where Marlo has been hiding bodies. Lester had so many scenes just pondering and 11 episodes later finally gets thrown a bone. You guys are asking all the right questions on the post talk. Time to buckle up.

It's crazy how quickly Lester was able to put together what was happening with just the bare bones of all the information that wasteman Herc had at his disposal. Also, I love how Michael K. Williams made more and more of an effort to do a Baltimore accent as the series went on. Most of the other non-local actors didn't even bother (not that I blame them).

“I’m siding with my kids.” I always felt this line was when Prez completes his arc and becomes Mr Prezbo and its one of the best character arcs i have ever seen in any media.

I agree with you about Michael or Dukie being "hosed" from the beginning, but that doesn't feel quite the right way to describe Namond's situation. Like that's only true relative to what the broader society considers a good outcome, but he's barely part of that society. By the standards of all the authority figures in his actual community- his parents, their peers, their bosses- he has been setup for success. Everyone he has any reason to respect basically up until meeting Colvin has taught him that being a dealer or enforcer is a respectable and lucrative career and his dad ending up in prison is a noble sacrifice and maybe even a solid retirement. You could compare it to a kid growing up in an Amish community as the son of a respected craftsman, maybe not being setup for success by the standards of the broader society that defines success as being a doctor, lawyer, etc. but very much setup for success by that community's standards. I love that even with how much it feels like Carcetti is underwater getting up to speed with all the dirty machine politics, he still has time to make out of the box plays like he did to get the various public services off their butts to clean up neighborhoods. Also even with how mad I am at Herc I do love Bunk and Lester playing good cop/bad cop on him and Herc being too dumb to realize it. And then they did try it on Prez too and I think just from his expression he did pick up on it.

It was interesting that the two of you talked about and looked up other acting roles for Gbenga Akinnagbe, Chris, starred in last week. Two days later I watched an episode of Cold Case, from 2006, co-starring Akinnagbe and a young Chadwick Boseman.

Tim Miller

13 years and 4 months. Cool Lester smooth.

Fun fact the Baltimore city school system is one of the best funded school systems in the country when you divide all the money they get by the number of students they actually have. Yep they still have deficits like this mainly because of mismanagement and having to promise too many things to too many people to get anything done. The having to balance making various groups happy in this episode is 100% a reality to the job.

dys

The problem is this talking point gets used to justify that cutting funding from public schools is fine, actually, because if they spend so much money per student on schools in cities like Baltimore or DC and don't have amazing results then it must mean we can just cut all federal funding for schools as the current federal government is doing and it won't be a problem... right? /s

I'm curious what you guys think the next "setting" of season five will be. Season one was the corner, season two: the docks, season three: politics, and season four: the school. I'd love to hear what you think it could be.

Youtalkingtome

That's the difference. Herc was too dumb to realize and he's a terrible cop. I do believe that Prez was good police. He just had a really bad string of luck.

I love how Lester and Bunk are playing "Good cop, bad cop" with Herc because they know that's the way they get him to be cooperative.

In an earlier episode, Kevin called Rawls a political animal and I thought of commenting then but it might have been spoiler-ish no matter how I worded it. But these recents events have shown that while Rawls knows police work, Burrell might indeed understand politics better. Rawls was basically a few days away from the job if Royce wins, but he schemes to get Carcetti elected with the hopes that a white mayor would promote the white guy when the opposite is true. If anything, it goes to show that politics is a game of it's own with rules that take time to learn.
