Tony did what he had to do, I think. It wasn’t pretty and it wasn’t fair, but that’s the world he lives in. He was right, people were treating him like a child or an old man - even Carmela said she felt like she was sending a little boy off to school. And we see how vital masculinity is in this world through Phil’s disgust at Johnny’s tears and Vito’s rightful terror at being discovered. This episode is all about masculinity and the reclamation (or failed reclamation) of power and control. It’s a stark reminder of how different Tony’s world is from ours that we look at the ending of this episode and we might think, “He had no choice.” Also, sort of impressed that 50-year old Tony, just out of a stretch in the ICU, overpowered a hotheaded bodybuilder like that. Yeah, you could say that Perry was pulling his punches, and maybe he had the wisdom to stay down once he was down … but they established early in the episode that he’s got no self-control. I think at the very least, his initial reaction was genuine, and Tony held his own just fine.

This is why therapy doesn't work on sociopaths...Tony just uses Dr. Melfi's advice yet again to be a better criminal...

Every single time, right? I read once that therapy doesn't work on sociopaths, but there is counseling available for their families to learn how to cope with their sociopathy.

Cristin Milioti was great as Sofia Falcone on The Penguin. Milioti has spoken very highly of Buscemi directing her in this episode. This credit was very early in her career.
