Director Blake Edwards did direct the Peter Sellers "Pink Panther" movies, as well as the huge hit "10" from 1979. He was married to Julie Andrews. Your timing with this movie is perfect after "To Kill a Mockingbird", in which you met the character Dill, who was based on Truman Capote. Also, some have said that Capote owed a debt to his mentor Christopher Isherwood, who created the character of Sally Bowles from "Cabaret." Holly was based on several women Capote knew during his younger days in New York City. The film of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" differs from the novella in several ways, the most obvious being the love story between "Fred" and Holly. The original story has an unnamed narrator whom the reader can assume is gay (as Capote was), and the novella ends with Holly leaving forever. The whole story is a much more tragic tale about sad, hopeless people. The character of Mr. Yunioshi was also very different in the book, so apparently those involved with making the film decided to "lighten things up" with this caricature, because, you know, racism is hysterical. I was going to wait awhile before I picked another Audrey Hepburn movie for you to watch, but now I can't resist. I think you'll enjoy what I pick.

I have to read this book. Also remakes are one thing but another adaptation of the novel would be great. I think these themes still resonate today and I would like to see the story told properly. Loved this movie. I like how it had a really dark underbelly but was honestly deeply romantic.
