And now you begin my least favorite season of the show. Not that it's really bad at all, it's just my least favorite. LOL

A lot of people have echoed that. Some season has to be a person's least favorite, right? Even if every season is really, REALLY good.

Yes David Simon worked at the Baltimore Sun so this is his career going full circle. In the shot where they are looking at the fire out the window the two people are Mike Olesker and David Simons wife novelist Laura Lippman who he met working at the Sun. My grandfather worked at the Sun with all of them.

The theme song for this season is sung by Waylon the AA guy on the show.

Fun fact: the kids from the cold open were both at Edward Tilghman Middle in Season 4. Monell was one of the boys who paid Randy to be lookout while he and his friend had sex with a girl in the bathroom, and DeShawn was one of the boys outside the school who beat up Randy for snitching.

Opening credits retain the framed photo of Det. Cole -- that's Robert Colesberry the actor/producer who passed away (to whom finale of S4 is dedicated). In tribute, Cole was given the detective's wake in Kavanaugh's bar in S3.

Even if this is the weakest of the seasons its still pretty damn good. Love the newspaper storyline personally though to be fair I have a huge bias in that department having worked in that area. I know the guys have mentioned they dont like knowing how many episodes usually but they may want to know this time imo.

"So one thieving politician trumps twenty-two bodies... Good to know." Love that line and love Lance Reddick's performance of it.

Gus, the editor at The Baltimore Sun, is pretty great. He's played by Clark Johnson who was a regular cast member of Homicide: Life on the Street, which was based on a book written by David Simon.

When they wanted to destroy Major Crimes last season, they braught in Lt. Marimow, the "unit killer." Several people pointed out that David Simon called him Marimow for Bill Marimow, one of Simon's editors at the Sun who he strongly disliked working with. Simon is said to have created the character as a "hate sink." In this season a similar role is taken up by David Costabile who plays Managing editor Thomas Klebanow, also based on Marimow. Many will remember Costabile as Gale Boetticher, a young chemist in Breaking Bad who is Walter White's mentee and rival in season 3. He's an actor who has been in a lot of television shows, including two that might actially be the greates television dramas of all time.
