Give Angelus a break. There was no Youtube yet... reaction content was analog.

The doctor is Richard Herd... who is often mistaken for Karl Malden. He was George's boss on Seinfeld... which people still mistakenly think was played by Malden.

I love the way Cordelia's non-specificity to "that thing" on Buffy's face is setup for her later being non-specific about the gross "thing" on the monster's face to foreshadow the eye tentacles.

Similarly I thought the doctor at the very beginning (the one taking Buffy's vitals when she comes in) was David Krumholtz for a second. He's been in at least one other Whedon thing but he would have been a little young to be playing a doctor in 1998.

Daniel Lydford

I think I tried to make this point, but I don't think I did it well. In the era when this show originally aired TV series didn't kill off main characters. It was never a thought at the time that they were going to kill off Angel.

Karl Malden played Bartlet's priest in The West Wing episode about the death penalty in season 1.

I would also hang out with Cordy above just about anyone else on the show, because you know where you stand with her. It's what set her apart from the rest of the 'popular' crowd - they all had to be deceitful and two-faced to appear cool; Cordy just *is* cool, and she knows it. I don't know for sure, but I feel like this villain is inspired by a poem called 'Erlkönig', about a boy and his father being chased through the woods by a supernatural being that only the child can see. Schubert put the poem to music and I HIGHLY recommend it, it's super fun and creepy! Just have an English translation at the ready lol EDIT: OxfordSong uploaded an amazing version to YouTube - they animated it in shadow puppet style, it's beautiful! And they have English subtitles!

This is not my favorite episode of the show, but not because of the episode itself. It's because of the placement. We're nearing the end of the season, and after "Passion," all i want is to move the story along. But the network wanted 22 episodes, and 22 episodes they got. If I'm remembering my lore correctly, this episode was supposed to be in s1 (only without Angelus and no mention of jenny calendar), but it didn't make it into the shorter s1. I think this could have worked better earlier in this season, but it is what it is. Also, buffy pretending to be power girl (instead of literally anyone else) while playing with her cousin as a kid was a weird choice. I hardly know anything about superheroes, but i know that power girl was most known for her cleavage and cor pioneering the boob window in her costume. Just a weird choice

I'm neither Team Angel nor Team Spike.

The actor who played the security guard is the late Willie Garson. He was an incredible character actor! He shows up in all sorts of shows in the 90s, including both Boy Meets World and Sex and the City. My favorite show of his was White Collar.

Is there’s somebody attacking you for your disliking Angelus right now? That’s bizarre….

Say what you want about Xander, but he’s very brave. If he truly cares about someone, he’ll stand his ground and face things he knows may kill him, because that’s how he’s wired. He’s all kinds of problematic in other ways, but I really admire him for his bravery.

My favorite version is Hillary Hahn playing the arrangement on violin. Something about how she can evoke the different “voices” while playing multiple strings is just so marvelous and so chilling. It makes playing on your metaphorical heartstrings seem almost literal.
