About the music the composer Max Steiner you’ve heard before he did the music for Gone With The Wind and Casablanca. He had a incredibly prolific career so you if watch more classic movies you probably listen to his work.

Great choice – a very exciting movie for 2 in the morning! Agreed, the story is brilliant; a great morality play without feeling too heavy-handed. Fun to see Bogart here as well. Dobbs is essentially the polar opposite of Rick in Casablanca...although Dobbs does remind me of another Bogart role – as the villain in Petrified Forest (1938). You’d probably enjoy that one as well :) Music note: The score here was really interesting. There was basically only one notable leitmotif (theme) that Steiner just modulated to fit the tone of the action – from light and upbeat to foreboding and even sinister. It’s a simple idea, but super effective!

Never saw this one either....did some simple Googling- looks like Huston was nominated for 14 Oscars...have seen The Maltese Falcon, The African Queen, and The Man Who Would Be King, but have NOT seen Key Largo, Asphalt Jungle, The Misfits, Night of the Iguana, or Prizzi's Honor...

Strange camera effects- very 3D like depth shots like in the bar near the start...it feels like you are on the dolly as the camera pans back on many of the shots....

Looks like Walter Huston won Best Supporting Actor for playing Howard, he's the father of the director...

That was authentic Spanish when the guys were inspecting the brand marks on the animals- they were warned that they had a 5 day journey to a river, dangerous mountains and you need a machete to cut through the brush...the translation was not exact

That conversation about future plans sounds just like Jimmy/Saul talking to Mike in the desert about "regrets"- and its just all about the money....

Such a great movie! John Huston directed his father, Walter, to a best supporting actor Oscar. 37 years later he’d direct his daughter, Anjelica, to an Oscar for Prizzi’s Honor. You may have confused John Huston and John Ford… Ford was the director who was associated with John Wayne.

Looks like the kid who told Dobbs that he won the lottery prize was Robert Blake as a child actor....
