I could be wrong, but I thnk the lady teacher was the newspaper advisor and the male teacher oversees the student council. I don't think they ever clarify, though! I thought Dean's sister was annoying, but also she's a kid...so Jess could've been nicer to her. But yeah, Rory is naive to think she can be friends with Dean and date Jess, and have it all go smoothly. Loved the scene of them all following Trix around Lorelai's house, lol.

Oh, you're right. She was newspaper and this guy is Student Council sponsor. He is still way too aloof. I was kind of hoping the Dean-Rory-Jess thing was over, but it looks like I was WAY wrong.

The band uniforms look like they’re in a community theater production of The Music Man. And once again if they wanted Clara to be six years old they shouldn’t have cast a twelve year old. The Francie plot bores me honestly, but I enjoy the Lorelai and Emily side of this episode. It does feel like a breakthrough moment for them that they’re able to have fun together.

I don't think Dean or anyone is being a "villain" here, but rather, there's this dynamic of tension and jealousy when he and Jess interact. I do think that his having coffee with Rory and suggesting to be friends was genuine, rather than a tactic to win her back. (And Jess did have a point when he said she could have told him about having had coffee with Dean).

Yeah I feel like this episode really highlights the similarities and differences between Dean and Jess both good and bad. Both come off as a bit bad this episode but with that last scene Dean comes off far worse. I think the biggest difference between them lies in the conversations Jess had with Dean and Rory at the end. With Rory he notices accurately that Dean and Rory’s demeanor has completely changed towards each other and that they seem to have talked so he assumes the worst and confronts Rory once they are alone. He starts off seemingly jealous and angry, he is even accusatory with his questions but never raises his voice or threatens her, and as soon as she simply tells him the trust instead of sparing his feelings he calms down and says he understands and isn’t angry. This is in huge contrast to how Dean reacted when he found out Rory was friends with Jess where he actually screamed at Rory and looked like he might get violent, even after Rory explained what happened. Yes both can be a bit jealous and suspicious but Jess never raised his voice and immediately understood once she told him the truth, which Dean never did. Likewise when Jess confronts Dean he only does so because he realizes what Dean is doing and simply says it’s pathetic and it won’t work. When Dean confronted Jess last season he threatened him and would get violently angry from his mere presence. Thus between the two Jess, in my opinion, is far less problematic and toxic of a boyfriend. That being said he isn’t innocent this episode either and is a total ass at times about the whole carnival as a whole, but he is at least being honest and candid about all his feelings with Rory the whole episode even when he comes off as a jerk. Also is it wrong that I get pleasure in watching Emily panic and become a mess whenever Trix is around?

1. There is nothing wrong with enjoying seeing Emily squirm, especially knowing the extent to which she put Lorelai through the same kind of scrutiny all her life. 2. I share your feelings on Dean vs. Jess. My biggest problem with Dean has always been the manner in which he gets upset. He always gets in people's faces and he gets loud. It's physically intimidating, and that's really not okay. Jess, despite getting upset, never yelled or got in Rory's face in this episode, which is a HUGE difference.

The Francie storyline is so stale to me. I get it for the (unnecessary) Rory/Paris tension but it could've been literally anything else. This was kind of a filler episode to me. I do think it showcased some of the ways in which Dean and Jess handle situations differently. I, however, think Rory is a little naive about Jess and Dean just being cool about everything.

Love how the Korn reference was used back in 2003!!! Love it!! And being that my mom is Emily's twin, I've adapted Lorelai's mind set and it's kept me sane all these years!!!!!!

Personally I don't think Dean has any nefarious plans including Rory, I think he's just messing with Jess, Payback

The owner of my hair salon is Rich Morrill who was in a band called LAPD. He quit the band and the other members became Korn! My first response upon hearing this was, “did you guys ever rent a house in Connecticut?” He responded, “Gilmore Girls, right?”

I have a hot take that's similar. Is Dean really trying to get back with Rory or is he trying to get back at Jess? I think Dean knew that while Rory didn't actually cheat she emotionally cheated and Jess probably initiated it. I think if Rory was a little bit more experienced with guys she would have noticed that Jess had been flirting with her since he got to Stars Hollow. Dean realized it unconsciously and it made him anxious and insecure. I think he's trying to emotionally manipulate Jess to feel the same way he was made to feel. Perhaps getting Rory back would just be a bonus.

I LOVED that scene where Lorelai basically instructed Emily on how to deal with a parent like Emily. What a great episode!

In my little corner of Connecticut, in our Stars Hollow-like town... our mascot was a Colonel! Our band hats were like a cowboy hat, but only rounded up on one side! Not nearly as awful as most band uniform hats! Our son had one similar to Lane's. Poor kid! lol! And yes, it gets VERY cold through the winter months in CT!

I would love another Lorelei and Emily episode. I love the two of them together. Also no way Clara is 6 lolol

I thought Milo Ventimiglia (Jess) acted well and had interesting chemistry with Scout Taylor-Compton (Clara). Yes she was annoying but it seems that Milo is good acting with kids.

This is what I talked about last time when they had that confrontation by the dumpster after Dean saw Jess and Rory, kissing for the first time. I guess you could say he’s not actively thinking of ways to get involved in that relationship either to mess it up or to gain her or to just be friends, like It’s it’s all genuine. He genuinely is a good guy, but when it comes to Jess because of his experience with him being a jerk. Being a nice guy wanting to give Jess the benefit of the doubt just like Rory kept asking him, but at the end of the day, Dean was right not to like him. Jess is the one who befriended Rory before with an alternative motive. And at this moment I don’t think he’s trying to get her back because the whole point is she was into Jess. I think he’s genuinely just trying to be friends with her and I think moving forward the show will kind of show how this relationship progresses or whatever. Can’t wait to see where this goes or I guess I know lol but to see you guys reaction to what’s to come. We got 4 more seasons to go so strap in!

In regards to Emily‘s behavior, I agree with you. I hope she sees that she treats her daughter Loralei the same as Trix treats Emily herself however I also think that Emily treats Loralei this way because it’s a learned behavior from Trix herself.
