so in the original Wizard of Oz book, the slippers were silver, not red. The movie only made them red to show off technicolor.

Fun musical tidbit! The 4-note leitmotif of "Un-liiiiii-mi-ted" is the same 4 notes as "Some-where O-ver" (the rainbow)

Also "can't I make you understand" is the same musical phrase as "follow the Yellow Brick Road."

- The guy at the end who collapses is Nessa's and Elphaba's father. - Jonathan Bailey (who plays Fiyero) is best known for Bridgerton, but he was also a main character in the newest Jurassic World movie. - All of the character singing (i.e., not the chorus) was done live. Which meant Cynthia Erivo had to train to be able to belt "Defying Gravity" while being on "broomstick" (a harness) and being pulled around in every direction. - I'd like to commend everyone in the cast for convincingly pretending to be disgusted by Cynthia Erivo, arguably the most beautiful person in the movie, even painted green.

Winnie Holtzman adapted the book for the stage show. She is really a unsung writing talent. She did the short lived tv series My So Called Life that was ahead of its time and is one of those poster children for cancelled too soon and the equally great Once and Again that was paired with Aaron Sorkins Sports Night in Friday oblivion on ABC.

I meant to say earlier - YES, Ariana and Cynthia are singing live on set.

Ben Gilbert

Elphaba's mother's lover sounds suspiciously like Jeff Goldblum.

She also wrote several episodes of "thirtysomething", some of which were directed by Timothy Busfield.

Just saw the trailer for part 2 when I went to the Downton Abbey movie. Looks like it will be even more visually stunning!

So defying gravity is the end of act one in the musical. John Chu basically said that you can’t really have anything come after defying gravity other than an intermission because it is such a showstopper. And honestly, as someone who has seen the musical in the movie now a couple of times I completely agree I think that was done perfectly. Fun fact it’s actually a very common mistake that some people have left wicked on broadway during the intermission because they think that defying gravity is the last number in the show and so they miss the entire second act lol

Also, I highly recommend watching some of the behind the scenes making of videos because I think you’d be really, really surprised at how much of it is actually practical. The big CG things that I can think of are obviously the opening shot the shot of the train going into the emerald city (the train when stationed at shiz was practical) and then obviously when she’s flying, and you see everything around her. And obviously there’s other, but they show the whole process of the tulip field the train the school it’s really incredible and impressive and just goes to show that when you have passion for something and you want to do right by it, you will do what it takes and that’s what I appreciate about JMC as director. He really cared about the world he was creating. Also, I think someone else already mentioned they sang live on the set. There’s a video talking about how they had to basically make the set into a recording booth. Such cool stuff
