I've been waiting almost a year for you to see this! So excited! One of the best musicals in Broadway history!

Jérémy

Will there be an uncut version for this one? I understand if there isnt with it being a recent movie and a musical, a terrible combo for copyright. If there is I'll wait it's often easier for me to watch that version on my tablet. Looking forward to my rewatch and your reaction.

The play was sooooo much better then movie.

I'm sure the play is fantastic! I have a trip to NYC in a few weeks, and am seriously looking at adding the show to the trip.

Fun fact: Gregory McGuire (author of Wicked book) wrote this as a commentary on the Bush Administration of the early 90's.

They were Silver Slippers in the Oz books. The red were just for the movie. I don't think the trailer did any favours in selling the movie, as it leaned a little heavy on the CGI and darker shots. Yet the movie itself was such a delightful blend of practical sets and visual effects. You're right that Jonathan Bailey (Fiyero) has a prolific stage career, but he's probably best known (before this) from his role on Bridgerton.

If you liked this, check out Twisted, a musical from the indie theater group Team Starkid. It's a similar idea of "what if the villain were actually a misunderstood hero" but with Jafar from Aladdin instead of the wicked witch (obviously inspired by Wicked ), and I actually think they do a better job of telling that kind of subversive story with some incredible songs I would put in the same league with Wicked's iconic numbers. They put the whole thing on youtube for free: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-77cUxba-aA Let me know if you want any recommendations for food or things to do while you're in New York, Kevin :)

And JB just got a pretty fat paycheck as Scarlett Johansson's co-lead in Jurassic Rebirth. Well deserved success. He's been working since he was about 11!

If you guys want stunning, practical set productions, I might just have to get you Jon Chu's Crazy Rich Asians. Mind-boggling, stunning sets. And he cast Michelle Yeoh in that one as well. PS-- Elphaba is my spirit animal. Bravo...

I enjoyed Crazy Rich Asians, my sister-in-law who is Malaysian Chinese (as is Michelle Yeoh) kinda hates it though. Not sure how much because it's inaccurate to her experience and how much because she considers Singapore to be basically the theme park version of Malaysia.

I've been looking foward to this! The party dance scene always gets me. How Elphaba started dancing, but it was a dance for 2 people, and she didn't have a partner. Also, apparently Kristen Chenoweth was considered for the role of Ainsley Hayes, but had already agreed to do Wicked.

Yay!!!! I love and have seen the stage musical so many times and it never gets old. I think they did a great job translating it into a movie while still focusing on the core themes of the book which I also read. The book I loved so much I almost couldn’t bare to finish it despite obviously knowing how it ends. Glad you enjoyed it! Stunning sets and some great performances. Can’t wait for Part 2 which comes out in November!

I remember seeing this for the first time around 2008 when it first toured in Australia and then I saw it again last year when it returned for another season in preparation for the film. The themes struck me as so much more pertinent today than they did when the show first came out. I love the nods to the The Wizard of Oz, I love the way they bring the original film into Wicked - the best way I've heard it described is that Wicked is the true story and Wizard of Oz is the propaganda that everyone's seen.
