"One girl in all the world... One girl. The Chosen One." Sounds so noble. But what it means is that there is a child who spends most of her life being chased and tortured and beaten by demons and monsters for her entire short life before she's murdered. She never gets to choose; she is chosen--sacrificing absolutely everything she is to save the rest of us. To me, this episode encapsulates the entire meaning of the series. And it's future bookend? Well, it's absolutely perfect. See you soon...

God bless sophia crawford (smg's stunt double until s4) and jeff pruitt (stunt coordinator and crawford's husband), bc the stunt work on this episode was so good. -at the end, we have the second appearance of buffy's overalls of sadness -this is yet another instance of the showrunners and writers not knowing ahead of time whether the show was renewed or not, so they ended the show in a way that COULD work as a series finale, but that ultimately leaves fans wanting more -hate what xander did this episode. He either lied to buffy bc his petty hatred for angel (and i mean angel, not angelus. Everyone's hatred for angelus is reasonable) trumps this important info about the curse, or he doesn't have faith that buffy could do the right thing, knowing that the return of angel is possible. Either way, he's absolutely being a jerk Can't wait for s3!

Main arc of late-S2, from Innocence to Passion to Becoming, is truly extraordinary. What an amazing, heart-wrenching, powerful exemplar of series television. Drusilla's hypnotic charm, making Giles see Jenny, still blows me away... Incredible scene. Cheers again to Robia LaMorte for making Jenny so real and wonderful, and to Juliet Landau who gets such a chance to shine in this two-part finale. Oh, also... Joyce gets some flak for her sharp threat to Buffy, but let's all remember: she just endured a life-changing, world-altering, supernatural, seemingly-inconceivable BOMBSHELL of a reveal... so I give her at least a teensy bit of slack.

Can't wait for season 3!!

This show almost always has incredible season finales. The first season finale really brought the emotional stakes to what had otherwise been a fun but mostly monster of the week season, and this one goes even harder... but I am so excited for the seasons and finales to come. For wanting to see a cop show about the paperwork, you guys have seen Hot Fuzz right?

Daniel Lydford

We might need to put the X-Files on the list of series, because you're knowledge is sadly lacking. smh

Also, buffy "coming out" to her mom was so well done, by both smg and kristine Sutherland. Every time i watch i want to cry tbh

They didn't really say more than "there's a 'can-of-worms' conspiracy," and the heroes are part of the FBI, which is all pretty accurate.

You didn't remark on the clear gay-coming-out subtext in the fight with Joyce, so I will. "You think I *chose this? How *lonely it is?" Oof. Thankful not as many kids get thrown out and made homeless for it these days, though still infinitely more than there should be. I'm not sure there are many season endings of anything that are as sad as this one. (And yet, not the saddest of all Buffy episodes, incredibly.)

Haven't started the episode proper yet, but just to comment on the unsatisfactory nature of Kendra's death - I think that's the whole point. She died young, before she'd really had a chance to solidify her legacy, to a creature she's oath-bound to destroy. If it feels unfair, it's because it is unfair. ----- I don't have much to add that other commenters haven't already covered. Even as one of the very few Xander apologists, I cannot defend what he did in this episode. I've tried justifying it as him trying to keep her focused, but saying nothing at all would have accomplished that, and he looked SUPER guilty for the rest of the episode. Also, I feel like the cop shooting at Buffy is very explainable - she's a *Sunnydale* cop. Yes, they might be "deeply stupid" (which I interpret as "deliberately kept in the dark"), but if there's any police department in the world that's going to be trained to abandon caution, it's SDPD!

I'm not going to lie, I completely missed it. I guess I was too wrapped up in the literal nature of the story line, but that makes so much sense. Thank you!

You're easily two of the best reactors to this series and I love how into it you are. Season 3 is my favourite season and one of the best seasons of television, period. I am locked in to see the rest of your Buffy journey. It's a full on trip.

This was a lot of fun to re-experience with you guys! Great episode. The song at the end was a bit too sappy for my taste, but I guess that was more normal in the late '90s.
