I hate that this episode ends with so much of Buffy apologizing and not others at least ALSO apologizing to her. I like the parts of the conversation with Willow, but I still hate that Willow did ditch her and avoid her and then wants to say that Buffy should have talked to her! When? When you didn't show up? Or when you brushed her off when she directly asked if things were ok? Buffy made a real effort! Xander is 10x worse and I just can't stand him in this episode. Honestly, Joyce sucks a lot here, too. ASH as GIles just steals this whole episode for me. That amazing quiet moment in the kitchen where you can see how relieved and happy he is that she is home is just incredible face acting. Literally everything about him and his drive to Buffy's is perfect. And him threatening Snyder gives me a tingly feeling!

Yes, Giles is the only one who acts appropriately through this whole thing. Including threatening Snyder, which I think we can all agree is acting appropriately. To be fair, though, Joyce is a freaked-out single mother whose child has been missing for months, and the others are all children. (If they were being played by actors of the characters' actual ages, that would be clearer, though of course they'd be less likely to be able to play the parts.) The fact that nobody is coping well feels pretty realistic. Especially given that nobody really knows the worst of what happened to Buffy at the end of last season, beyond the cops and the expulsion and so on. Giles, being the only one who really understands the world a Slayer has to live in, is aware that something awful must have happened. Everyone who was there for Willow's spell should be able to guess, but they don't seem to have put it together yet.

-so is joyce allowed to pillage artifacts that the gallery she works at gets in? Or is she just taking what she likes? 😂 -one of my favorite fan theories is that pat and Joyce were definitely dating. Love that for them 🩷🤍🧡 -at the Buffy Prom event i went to, my favorite cosplay was a woman who was dressed up as pat! She even brought homemade empanadas to give to people. It was amazing 😂

I think Joyce being freaked out is fair but man do they need to talk. I really want to see the two of them become closer this season.

One of the most frustrating episodes of Buffy. I can understand friends and family reacting like this, sure. I find it incredibly short-sided, but I can understand it. HOWEVER. The show seems to side with everyone against Buffy *throughout the episode*. The way the fight was shot, and directed, 'you don't know what I was going through' was never framed as an understandable argument from Buffy. Xander's 'let her speak' was the worst of it. Because except for that one 'you told me to leave' towards Joyce, the show didn't let Buffy get a word in edgewise and - more importantly - nobody ever reacted to her pleas for empathy. She had months of extremely traumatic happenings ending with her boyfriend dying, and nobody ever even thought to ask her: hey, what happened? The fact that there is no mention of Angel in the whole episode - except that one extremely harsh jab from Xander - is crazy to me. And then in the end... nothing gets resolved. Yes, they fight well together! Everything is fine now! Make it make sense. Giles is the only good thing in this whole episode.

Just a note - David’s name is going to be in the credits any time he shows up, including in recaps. If you see him in “previously on Buffy,” then his name will be in the credits, even if that’s his only scene.
