Dead Man's Party

This might be a relatively weak episode of the show, but there are a lot of things I really liked about this. - Giles driving: “Do you like my mask? Isn’t it pretty? It raises the dead!” And then hot-wiring the car. PEAK! “Mr.” Giles indeed! - We needed an episode to deal with the gang’s issues. I find the “you bury things, they come back to bite you” metaphor fun. And Pat is a fun, albeit obvious, Chekhov’s-irritating-side-character. - I think you’ll find that “Xander fans” are a minority, especially on a rewatch.

Not a favorite of mine, to say the least.

This is the first time I've rewatched the whole series, I must've skipped all the "Xander being the worst" episodes on past rewatches.

Really loving that you are doing the uncut versions now. Seriously you guys are awesome. Also Kevin, I am afraid to say you are not alone with those 90s Florida douchebag tips. '97-'01 I too suffered from that affliction. I know there is a long road to recovery but maybe one day we'll forget it ever happened. Also am I the only one who dislikes the fact that Joyce used the term "primitive art" to describe African folk art? I am pretty sure primitive art stopped being an okay term way back in the 80s so as a gallerist she definitely should have known better.

The friends always piss me off in this episode; and my thought is what you both pointed out. Something big must've happened. It's valid for them to feel scared for Buffy and to feel abandoned by Buffy; and they should also know Buffy well enough to know that if she bailed, something huge must've happened. I think part of it is they are teenagers. I, for one, am that much more empathetic a person now as an adult. I also am much more adept now as an adult at, when frustrated/angry/sad at a situation, being aware that I don't know what's going on on the other person's end of things and wanting to find that out before I express feelings toward the person.

Thank you so much for doing uncut episodes of Buffy. I was having sync issues, and this makes it much more enjoyable. Cordelia is getting some good character development. Her and Giles being polar opposites, but also being the only reasonable ones, was great.

Love this format. I assume you can't keep these versions up for long, to avoid trouble? Still, very into it.

Woohoo! 🎉🎉🎉🎉 Uncut versions!!! No more sync frustration!!

This episode is deeply frustrating.

Yeah, the age of the characters is something to keep in mind (Although Xander’s self-righteous act is something I could do without). Joyce’s seeming refusal to acknowledge her own misbehavior bothers me more. Gee, I said a profoundly horrible thing to you, but it’s not my fault and I shouldn’t have to apologize for it.

Honestly, while I resonate with everyone's feelings in this episode (except Xander, just shut up, dude), I think the dialogue was kinda poorly written. All the misunderstandings and miscommunications seem a bit...convenient. I mean, all Buffy had to say was "I'm not ready to talk about it yet" and I feel like everyone would have understood; but instead she flip-flops on wanting to talk about it, then not wanting to talk about it, then telling people they wouldn't understand, then wanting people to be compassionate towards her, then snapping at Cordy when she tries to be compassionate towards her. And everyone else goes WAY too hard on her! Sure, they don't know the extent of what happened, but everyone (except maybe Joyce) knew enough about the Angel situation to know that she must be grieving. Shout out to the actress who plays Pat (Nancy Lenehan) for being so innocent yet so unlikeable at the same time. I feel like everyone's parents had at least one of those overbearing friends who means well but won't go away - I know mine did! XD Also, thank you for the uncut option! I understand they may not be around forever, the copyright for this show has been notoriously difficult to work with, but I only have access to two versions of the show: the HD version which SUUUUUUCKS and desyncs at every commercial break, or the DVDs which are borderline impossible to sync to your reactions on separate devices.

I subscribed to Hulu and have to deal with commercials. Thanks for the uncut upload
