I'm not usually one of those "fun fact" guys, but Kenard was one of the kids playing Omar after that failed heist. Always some coming, some going, and a lot more stuck in between.

fbi behavioral analysis scene with Jimmy is one of the funniest scenes in the whole show. Absolute comedy gold seeing Mcnulty's facial reactions there. After losing Omar like we did this episode needed a humor injection. Love the addition of Gus this season. He's the newspapers version of "good police". Jordan's Bull's titles was an excellent analogy on there is no bad Wire season just some are greater than others. And you'll see after a couple of rewatches that the correct answer to the season rankings is 43125 :)

Regarding the end discussion, you only have two episodes left! But the last one will be about 90 minutes. Arguably one of the issues the season has is the shortened episode order (only 10 episodes) which forced them to abandon some of the subtlety the show is known for. On the other hand, while the last season has it's problems, the finale might be my favourite single episode of the show. Just a personal view though, so don't get yourself TOO hyped or anything.

This is the same year that Amy Ryan received her supporting Oscar nomination for Gone Baby Gone.

Omar's death is maybe the most shocking moment in this show that has a ton of shocking moments. But it's not just for shock value either, as you alluded to there is a poetry in this ultimate badass getting taken out in a random moment by a random little kid. I love Carver's arc from season 3 on so much. He just needed the right mentor and to be separated from Herc's constant bad influence to become a great cop. Daniels could be a great mentor to someone like Kima who actually wants to learn but Carver needed someone like Bunny who could drill in the hard lessons from his 20 years on the job.

A Dennis Lehane book and he also has the screenplay credit on this episode! Great pull

Yes, everyone was surprised by the Omar death even though they told you in the opening credits since they flashed the big death from each seasons penultimate episode ending with Omar’s picture. In the planning for the season this was the penultimate episode next week is part 1 of the series finale followed up by a 90 minute part 2 to end it off.

The way Omar died symbolized one of the messages of this season and the series. Omar was always proud he never hurt a citizen, meaning an innocent person. None of the people Omar killed would matter to the press even Stringer. I’ve been a close follower of Baltimore news my whole life and I can’t tell you the name of one person like Omar. The only cases that get any news coverage are the people who kill a person “that matters”. The news blurb Gus read would be all Omar would get and that’s usually only if there were 3 or 4 other murders for the press to do a murder spree story.

The Carcetti story this episode was all about the constant battle in Maryland between the cash strapped Baltimore area and the much more wealthy DC suburbs that always are screaming about being ignored. This factors into every governor election. Of course in the state there is also the furthest east and furthest west areas of the state that are far less funded than Baltimore and far more impoverished that are forgotten by everyone except the few remaining republican congresspeople in the state that have been unfortunately what has kept the republicans in control of the house on more than one occasion. (Another show idea I’ve had for awhile).

"PG county" gets said in this episode a lot, they should know this refers to Prince George's county, the part of Maryland that contains the closest Maryland suburbs of DC.
