While the monster of the week may have been a bit on the nose, I did appreciate the thematic throughline of 'beasts in men', Oz and Angel included. Especially Oz, because he is such a stoic character and the wolf is so much his opposite. The show is getting better and better at tying long arcs, weekly arcs, character arcs and themes together in a way that's progressively interesting. You've been very astute at figuring out the bigger pictures, so I would love to hear your comments on the themes especially.

This is one of the very few s3 episodes that i don't love overall (though i love parts of it). I think the metaphor was too on the nose (even for this show), and i hate the way buffy confronted debbie. It really felt to me like the writers had no compassion for survivors of domestic violence. It's possible that im reading too much into it, but like most women, i know many people who have been affected by DV, and if someone talked to them the way buffy did to debbie, I'd be furious. Stepping off my soapbox now to say that I love SMG's acting when she first sees angel. And Anthony Stewart Head as giles answering buffy's questions about angel, he was beingnso kind and empathetic despite the fact that angelus killed his girlfriend and tortured him for hours. Phenomenal performances Also, how did angel find pants??? How was his hair still so perfect??? 😂

One more thing - whistler from the s2 finale confirms for us that some demons can be benign (he mentions that he's a demon when he meets buffy i think), so why can't some of them become licensed therapists or psychiatrist? Imagine Sunnydale if people actually could seek help and be 100% honest when doing so 😌

I enjoy this episode, the themes, while a little heavy handed, resonate represented by the three different types of beasts. Oh and the RFK reference, so good 🤣
