Thanks, guys, that was such a fun reaction. This is such a nostalgic, comfort watch for me. I definitely related to Sam's character at the time. This has been called the female Stand By Me so you're right Joe and I love both movies. They cast the kids first then the adult actors. I liked that we saw more of their past, especially since we got such great music from that era. The Brendan Frasier cameo is my favourite but the rest of the supporting cast nailed it. Samantha's little sister is actually played by Demi Moore's eldest daughter Rumer. I like that Demi did the narration, she definitely has the voice for it.

This was directed by Lesli Linka Glatter who has worked on a lot of TV shows (including Mad Men) and was just recently nominated for an Emmy for best direction for Zero Day. This movie is fun but it also has deeper (and sometimes darker) elements which I think really adds to its authenticity. I'm glad I was able to get you guys to watch both Ladybird and now this, such strong female led movies : )

This is one of those movies that's always interesting to see as a teenager and again later in life. I was 14 when this came out and saw it in the theater so naturally, I identified with the girls but now I can identify more with the women. While this was not a movie I rewatched a ton, it's always held a special place in my heart.

God, this movie does nostalgia so well. Everyone deserves a friend group and a summer like the girls have in this movie. I was lucky enough to actually watch this movie during my own version of this summer, and watching it brings it all back. How your friends feel like THE WHOLE WORLD, and every day is an adventure, and the future is a distant concept that nonetheless is full of hope and infinite potential. Also, the soundtrack is incredible.

Here's a fun idea: to celebrate your newest Patreon member, “Chris O’Donnell,” why not run a poll to see which of his movies we should watch together?

She’s worked on Gilmore Girls, Homeland, and The Newsroom.

I liked Melanie Griffith in Working Girl (which is on the list), but not much else. Her daughter Dakota is terrible too. Beautiful, but not much of an actress. The music is so great in this movie! My mom’s friend was married to the guy who wrote the song “Knock Three Times” by Tony Orlando and Dawn (featured in this movie). When they divorced she apparently got a bunch of alimony from the song’s residuals. She never worked again and always drove a Mercedes. And that wasn’t even that big a hit!

Christina Ricci and Gaby Hoffman are so good in this and you can see why they became such amazing actors. Christina and Devon Sawa (who plays one of the Wormers) kissed in another movie before this so people totally shipped them. I'm glad that Kevin picked up on the fact he and Roberta might still be together which we all thought too. Devon Sawa would go on to be in Eminem's "Stan" video. I follow him on SM, he's a lot of fun.

i love this movie and am so glad when anyone watches it. it’s so underappreciated. and the soundtrack was go-to car music when i had one.

So excited you guys reacted to this! It’s easily in my top five childhood films (I was born in ’89). I even have the soundtrack. I live in the Southern California valley, and we’ve got tons of palm readers and psychics along Route 66. I’ve never actually stopped at one, though. Someone already mentioned it, but I love that little Angela is played by Rumer Willis. She’s such a cutie. This movie was written by I. Marlene King, who later created Pretty Little Liars. You can definitely see the early traces of her storytelling style here. I don’t know how many Thora Birch movies you’ve seen, but she’s one of my all-time favorite child actresses. From Hocus Pocus to All I Want for Christmas to Homeless to Harvard, she always gives such grounded, emotional performances. And RIP to Ashleigh Aston Moore, who played young Chrissy. She passed away at just 26 from pneumonia caused by a weakened immune system during recovery from drug use. It’s heartbreaking. She was also in Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995) with Christina Ricci, which is another underrated gem. My heart always aches a little when I rewatch her scenes in this.

I am definitely gonna rewatch this one. It's so watchable! Pretty Little Liars was always on at my girlfriend's house when I was in college.

Oh love that you reacted to this one. One of my favorite childhood movies! And looking back I don't even think I knew or appreciated how stacked that whole movie cast was.
