One of the best episodes that really sets up the rest of the season.

Gilmore Girls had one bad episode and said: no more! The run of episodes since the infamous Marcie fiasco has been stellar. I was so impressed with how this episode manages to juggle so many storylines all at once. MVP has to go to Lorelai in this one. Not only does she manages the crisis at the Inn well but she's also such a supportive parent with Rory when it comes to her choice of school.

She handled Rory's college decision so well. She has come a long way since angrily finding out Rory applied to Yale.

The owner of the Inn is Mia. Lorelai was never against Yale as a school for Rory. It was that Rory had always dreamed of Harvard (on her own), but others (Richard, Gran) pushing so hard for Yale was them forcing and imposing their own agenda on Rory. If Rory wanted to go to "Dirty, Filthy" Princeton (Heh.), Lorelai would support her the same.

Okay, I'm embarrassed that I know this, but we're all friends here, so here it goes. When Paris said, "I'm not good enough for 'General Hospital'!", I realized that the actor who played her boyfriend Jamie went on to become a series regular on "General Hospital" four years later. Yes, I'm a fan of serialized drama, and I'm not proud of it.

This is one of my favorite episodes. I love crisis episodes of TV shows, typically it shows characters coming together and showing hyper competency. This is no exception. Its just so satisfying to watch characters be good at doing stuff and having it turn out well as a result. It's one of the many reasons Star Trek is so great too. We don't need constant human failures and flaws as a plot device to justify constant drama. It is just bad writing. I love that Gilmore Girls varies where the drama comes from. You are absolutely right they have first world problems, but realistic first world problems. There are no evil twins, accidental overdoses, or characters going to absurd lengths to not communicate with each other.

Loved watching this with you, love this ep, its atmosphere and the hints at Lorelai and Luke (and despite endless rewatches, I hadn't really noticed the matching jackets until you pointed it out today). Nice throwback to the season premiere with Lorelai's dream.

You guys need to get some "Babette ate oatmeal" shirts for sure! :)

Lol you guys are spot-on, I remember rewatching this during my college applications and getting so frustrated with the rory’s ‘stressful’ college application storylines lol I also think you guys are dead on about jess (being troubled, getting better but still rough around the edges, rory pushing him to have dean’s good qualitites, everyone getting on his case no matter how well he is doing), idk how some people get upset at you for ‘hating’ certain characters lol Last thing, you guys are going to adore the cold open of next episode, I rewatch it at least twice every time I watch that episode

This was a really good episode for the two of them. I find their dynamic to be really affecting. It's like Lorelai, he's right in front of you!

No way! That's actually really cool. I remember my mom watching soaps on our little tv in the kitchen. She had it set up so she could wash dishes and make breakfast and not miss her stories LOL

I haven't seen this one in a long while and had forgotten how great it is. That Luke and Lorelai scene! Jess being chased away by Mrs Kim with a cricket bat! Rory rescuing Paris! Luke and Sookie inventing Cajun Benedict! Lorelai saying it's Yale (and somehow sneaking in to change Rory's bedroom wall in between the Poe couple leaving and Rory going back to change?)! Miss Patti and Babette driving Michel insane in the emergency center! ... And then the huge sad devastation at the inn at the end.

If there's a special hell for people that talk at the movies, what's the punishment for people that talk during live theatre...? Not cool ladies! 🤣😡

Everytime I watch this episode I think it would also have been a great season ending episode.
