i love this show as well, it's embarrassing but in the news i sometimes get from center right sources and commentators this show created an embarrassing firestorm they saw it as just propaganda. As far as i could psychologically diagnose it was like they were treating The Newsroom as a news programme and not a drama based around a newsroom thats set in our real world because it makes the stories more relatable (because we remember most of these events) it elementary that a news programme and drama show are different beasts and have to be judged accordingly. A somewhat paranoid and fantastically ironic delusion was formed that lefties would take "The Newsroom" and treat it as news rather than TV. When from my POV thats what the right were doing thats why they got so annoyed at the show but will's pilot monologue that went viral. i'm right leaning and sure i can point out a few inperfections in his monologue, like how some of the facts he cited needed to be seen in a broader international context. small example: ofcourse USA is just one of many many free nations, however you guys do have slightly more liberties than most countries. And no 1 in defence spending where he majority of the countries you outrank are allies. True but that's because of two things, the nato obligation of 2% GDP, wel you ar ethe biggest economy 2% of your budget isgonna be a heftier sum than the other nato members. Also some nato member don't meet their obligations. My point is while there some mildly misleading facts in his speech, it didn''t justify the hysterical reaction i observed on my side. It was a TV show, not a news broadcast. Tv shows are allowed (rightly) to bend events if it serves the story better. It's F*cking a painting, not a newpaper, people need to chill out. "based on a true story" cmon that's how this stuff works. you should be absorbing your real world facts from a drama show anyway....so whats the harm if they spin stuff for dramatic purposes......and the drama is sublime like all sorking's babys

That’s why it’s always got my goat when some Americans talk about 9/11 saying “they killed nearly 3000 Americans/ citizens/ our own people. Being an international city and an international office, there were people in those buildings spanning between 77-90 different nations.
