In your intro you referred to rights issues that prevented Clarice Starling from being a character in the show. Likely the show works better without her, but we'll never know. I did watch the spin-off show that you alluded to, it was called Clarice, and it was fairly good.

Dan Fogler does indeed play "someone much worse" in the Rainmaker show (which is excellent fun, if not perfect).

It is WILD that this was on NBC. The version of each episode that's on streaming and the Blu-rays is uncensored, but there were tweaks for the broadcast versions to get it past censors. It's still incredibly violent and dark for a network show. The rights issue has been a mess for decades, largely because Dino DeLaurentiis sold off the rights to the Silence of the Lambs novel after Manhunter was a dud at the box office -- he didn't see the value in it (*irony burn*).

They dynamic with Will and Hannibal is one of the most interesting I have ever watched. Like you said we have Will who has pure empathy and Hannibal who has no empathy and to watch the dichotomy of those two characters is so fascinating.

EDITED: The actor Scot Glen from Silence of the Lambs looks like the real life person that Jack Crawford is supposed to represent...the directing style is a bit too much horror rather than crime thriller....
