Oh yes!!! One of my favourite movies of all time and my favourite reactors. This should be brilliant. ❤️ Lots of love from Norway. 😍

This is so intersting to watch someone who doesn't know anything about Norwegian history see this! We all know instantly that the little kid in red running around is the current king for instance... That sweater is quite popular to knit for young boys stil 😊 A new movie has just been made about the events when the ship on the beginning gets shot down! I am looking forward to watch it!! Such an important event in Norwegian history! I have been to the fortress a few times, incredible. All the soldiers on the fortress had just been changed for new ones so very few had any training. The commander was soooo good. Norway had been neutral during ww1 and was probably expecting to be able to be the same during ww2. Quisling on the radio is the leader of the eqvivelant of the Norwegian nazi party. His last name is internationally known as eqvivelant with traitor. They also have to keep the royal kids out of the war because they are the next in the line of succession. 😊 They wife of Olav, The Crown Princess, is also a Swedish princess. "Alt for Norge" Everything for Norway had been the motto of all these three kings, so they use that in purpose often throughout, it hits hard. King Haakon spoke a like Norwegianified Danish, so it's very intersting how that have that spot on too. Olav is a lot like himself too. The young soildors at Midtskogen are also part of the King's guard and it makes it even more personal, Seberg among them. Now please watch Max Manus about one of our greatest ww2 resistance heros. Also an incredible movie. That will show you a lot more people in the streets. Oslo thankfully was not bombed and they ran us over without fights in a day or two. Secondleuitnanten is a very good movie about the similar events. The reason why they just put Midtskogen in is because it was such a famous battle and basically what held back the nazis from the king. But it probably didn't come across without you knowing the Norwegian history 😊 Oh, and there was a premiere screening for free behind the royal palace in the park, with the royal family present. We went, but had to leave, cause it was pouring down with rain. The king passed us about two meters away though, one of his sisters portrayed here is also still alive.

Also from 2016 is the movie Anthropoid based on the Czech plot against Reinhard Heydrich- the SS officer who was the prime architect of the Holocaust- who Stephen Miller WISHES he could be...

Yeah Quisling is synonymous with traitor even in the US, though I doubt most Americans who use it that way even know who he was. We also use Benedict Arnold as an example from our history whose name became synonym for traitor but I don't know if that's used at all outside the US.

The first public display of 10 Lumeire brother pieces that we would consider "silent films" was in 1895

Spoilers below: Gentlemen- I did post-watch research. The Norwegian royal family was intermarried with the British via Edward VII, so it was natural to flee to Britain to set up an exile regime to await a post-War return. The father ruled until 1957 and the son until 1991 after they were restored. It appears that the Labour Party held power from 1905-WW2 and that Quisling wss from the Far Right party that was merely installed under a thinly veiled coup. So this is very much like Vichy France and Charles de Gualle going into exile (except that De Gaulle was conservative as well Spoilers above

I'd seen some clips from this on youtube for whatever reason but not the whole film, great stuff. The Norwegian military may have been badly outnumbered and outgunned in the invasion, but the Norwegian resistance had some amazing accomplishments after that, like destroying the German nuclear program: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norwegian_heavy_water_sabotage I'm curious since we see the German envoy almost always speaking German even to Norwegians, would people in Norway like the foreign minister or Oslo chief constable have commonly understood German back then? I assume historically King Haakon actually did since it's pretty important to the story that he spoke to the envoy alone. Denmark did quickly surrender and cooperate with the Germans for a while but I think they acquitted themselves well in the end, sinking their own navy to prevent its use by the Nazis and successfully evacuating nearly their entire Jewish population to Sweden: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rescue_of_the_Danish_Jews Seriously, I was in tears pretty much the whole time I spent in the Danish Jewish Museum in Copenhagen.

There’s a miniseries called The Saboteurs (2015) which tells the story of the attack on the German nuclear program in Norway. It’s been a while since I watched it but I remember it being quite good.

I loved watching this with you! Beeing Norwegian, I'm quite proud of how my country handled ww2. As to your point of not seeing the "guys in the steets" and more of the fights, another movie called Max Manus came out in 08. It's a really great movie that showed much more of those sides... Thanks for your great reaction!
