And now having watched the movie, this was great! I love Needy and love Chip (a romantic at heart caring so much about a dance is so me)! I feel for Jennifer. SA and r*pe still happen a lot almost 20 years later. Thank goodness the band got theirs in the end! My guess for at least part of the underappreciation at the time, the combo of it being horror-y which is niche in itself and then being a women-and-girls story centering on all-too-real things women and girls go through, I can totally see a bunch of young males going "I don't get it." I would think many girls and women who saw this movie back then would've loved it, though.

Awesome movie. And yeah, this is totally like if Buffy were made with the adult/horror dial turned up. I also wonder if it didn't get the hype it deserved because it's also a different role for Megan Fox. It's kind of her "Substance" moment. And you can tell she had a blast and killed the role, but I could see transformers fans not getting it back then.

I think a huge part of the missed reception of this movie was that it was advertised more towards guys and centred around how hot Megan Fox is, instead of highlighting the satirical and very female-frenemy-ship centred nature of the film.

the marketing didn't help this movie at all. they marketed it to teenage boys and men as "come see how hot Megan fox is!" instead of the toxic female friendships, female sexuality and such. also chris pratt’s character, Roman, survived. there’s a deleted scene at the end, the morning before needy kills jennifer that he’s the one who finds chip’s body in the pool house.

Everyone has already said The Things about this movie, so I’ll just answer this random question: You asked why a deer would be licking blood off of a body. The answer is that deer, like most ruminant animals that people think of as vegetarian, WILL seek out other, “meatasourous”, sources of protein/nutrients. Deer will eat bird eggs, animal bones, etc. Cows regularly eat bugs that are on the grass they eat, for example. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.

this is now a horror classic! all the horror girlies love it! maybe not so much boys as it puts them in the victim spot usually reserved for women, you should also check out Young Adult by diablo its is full of dark humor
