Now I can watch last week's. Didn't want to watch a bummer ep without another in the chamber.

Leah W.

Spike is a lot of fun this episode! His conversation with Willow is hilarious lol. The implant certainly brings a new twist and element to the show, too!

Kevin L

Lindsay Crouse (Prof. Walsh) you may have seen in various films, such as the con-man story House of Games written & directed by David Mamet, her husband at the time. Roger Ebert loved that movie and praised it every chance he got. Well worth checking out!

- Welcome to the main credits, James Marsters! - I love that they brought Parker back just to get punched in the face. It's notable that we've only ever seen him interacting with girls before this; now he's talking just to other guys, which kind of explains why he's suddenly so grotesque (he was douchey before, but the "toilet seat" comment was a whole other level). - Professor Walsh is one of those people whose day is absolutely made when they get to disappoint someone. I do like that immediately after Buffy says her piece and leaves, she says "I like her." - Xander and Harmony's sissy fight is one of my favorite scenes in the show. The music! The slo-mo! - Spike and Willow's metaphorical impotence scene is perfection. It does start off as almost unnecessarily rough. I get that they wanted the whiplash of thinking she's in genuine danger to the much more comedic scene a moment later, but yeesh. That goes hard. - [rot13 for spoilers] Fcvxr'f nggnpx nyfb erzvaqf zr sne gbb zhpu bs Gung Fprar va 'Frrvat Erq.' - Sehvg chapu. V qba'g guvax V rire abgvprq gung orsber naq abj V'z guvaxvat Zef. Not many people pay attention to Xander and Giles arc this season but you guys are on it. Xander is trying to sort of be something more than he is so first he tries to be Gile's apprentice but he isn't really good at it so he attempted to return to the one thing he was good at that one time... being a soldier but he sucks at that too. Giles is just trying to teach someone since he isn't a watcher anymore. Finding something to do that feels productive.

Finally, my day has arrived! I am that one person to comment that I don't like cheese.

In my re-watches, i am always surprised how much i like so many parts of season 4 (which is not a fan favorite) I really like the Buffy funny episodes, and this one is a top one. Every part of it. Xander/Giles, Xander/Harmony, Willow/Riley, Buffy/Riley, Willow/Spike, Spike/Harmony, the crew is at its best and they are served by perfect dialogs. The "military movie" vibe is great. Every moment is good, well written, well delivered, well filmed. And it gets better and better. this is a masterpiece.

Oh my god! I have seen that, but I never made the connection

I like everything about this ep except that as far as I can tell, Riley is still Buffy's T.A. - and seems to have paper grading responsibilities as part of that - so he should not be "asking her out" in any shape or form. And I'm sure he wouldn't in real life, at least till the term was over, but the show's decided to ignore that.

Carl Wilson

"A vague disclaimer is nobody's friend." Words to live by.

I’m so glad you guys are enjoying both James Marsters and Mercedes (Harmony) on the show! Harmony stands out as one of my favorite recurring characters, and I guess how we have to switch to referring to Spike as main cast! Their performances together are a joy. — The decision to put the slap-fight in slow motion was made by the show’s editor — amazing choice! — We continue with the updated characterization of Giles, which is a joy to behold. Over time, we’ve stripped away his awkwardness that he had in the first couple of seasons, and now we’re getting the most complete view of him as a person. It feels like he overcorrected in moving soooo far away from his wild, young years with Ethan, and now we’re seeing him get to finally be himself.

Joseph Irizarry

In case you didn't notice it, that prisoner who helped Spike to escape is one of Sunday's minions from the premiere

ScarlettMi

You wrote Charisma Carpenter but you mean Mercedes McNab. That's who played Harmony. Charisma was the actress who played Cordelia.

Joseph Irizarry

Riley is so cute, but GOD I hate whoever did his hair on the show.

Sarah P

What a terrible brain fart! Thank you for correcting me. Mercedes McNab deserves a lot of praise for her performance.

I don’t know, TA is very different than Professor with minimal power if at all. I feel like TA-student relationships are fairly normal and very low in the spectrum of inappropriate power-dynamics. That being said I won’t reveal how long it’s been since I’ve had or been a TA so it could be a different thing now.

Carl Wilson

If he is grading papers, which we saw him do in this ep, then a grad student has quite significant power over a freshman student - easy to play favourites, easy to use that as leverage in a sexual relationship. I don't think anyone has a problem with grad students and undergrads dating when they're not in that position, but everywhere I know of you can't date anyone whose grades you are currently responsible for.

Suzanne Whyte

Half the boys in my school had that exact member of a boy band haircut and we all thought it was cute.

Kirsten Stewart

The episode where James Masters joins the main cast, hoorah!! I love this episode, so many great comic moments for which the writers were known

Jamie Morgan

My mum doesn't like cheese, either. I don't understand it. I love cheese. And I have lactose intolerance. :(

Jamie Morgan

I COMPLETELY forgot this was the episode with the slap fight, I just spat coffee all over my computer screen!

Kevin L

Not even if the cheese slices are neatly arranged? 😜

Kevin L

S4 has always been a mixed bag; I think most fans agree about its low lows, and very high highs!

Anjali Agarwal

James Marsters is the best and Spike is my favorite character on the show (after Buffy)!

JC

I think TA-ing works differently at different places. When I was a TA “grading papers” meant I would highlight anything noteworthy (negative or positive) with my notes but professors owned the final grade. Most power I had was knowing their paper’s grade up to a few days ahead of it being returned.

MJ

I get stuck on this every time I watch this episode! Like I think Riley is actually super adorable here, but half my brain is going "awww" and the other half is screaming about ethics violations lol. To be fair, that's also how I feel about most everything related to Riley and Professor Walsh in their capacity as university employees. Why was he grading papers in the empty classroom one time?? When Psych 101 isn't in there, another class likely is. Do you know how difficult it is schedule those giant lectures every semester? Those things are booked! And why is Professor Walsh teaching Psych 101 in the first place? Does the department chair hate her? You've got the kind of funding the Initiative clearly has, you're sure as heck using it to buy out your teaching unless you love teaching introductory material to a bunch of freshmen or are otherwise forced to by department politics. Anyway I contemplate the academic bureaucracy of the Initiative a lot lol

Carl Wilson

Prof. Walsh teaching Psych 101 is obvs nonsense but in my mind since all her research now is classified and unpublished she made a deal with her dept head that she'd do one big favor for the rest of the dept and take on a survey course.

kosmickrab

This was the most wild episode.

TalynOne

Episodes with Spike and Harmony are always a highlight. It's been many years since I've seen Buffy but I'm also hoping this is the last we see of Parker, his story has run its course.

MJ

Incorporating that as my new headcanon. Thank you very much :D

Jontor11

Great one guys! Looove this episode. Lots of hilarious scenes, Xander & Harmony slo-mo fighting, Spike & Willow and his performing issues. Great stuff.
