What a relief! Totally agreed - extremely glad that Freddy is still alive and there’s some sort of plan in place. Huzzah! On Mason Verger - y’know, of all the terrible villains on this show, this guy is the most off-putting to me. I can’t imagine why Margo stuck around with him all this time. For the money? Not worth it. And yeah, the scene on the operating table was really rough to watch. Echos of the Handmaid’s Tale… among other things... nope, if I think about it too much, I'll just get angry. Yay, Freddy's alive!

They were eating Randell tier.

It was so hard not to skip ahead and see your reaction to the end of the episode! Completely recontextualizes the previous few episodes. And creates a bunch of Scenes That Must Have Happened Off Screen (grabbing a random body from the FBI morgue and getting permission to use it for shenanigans ... Price and Zeller being brought in on the ruse ... fake dental records). It's also kind of wild that they make it look like Will killed Freddie when he actually saved her life -- Hannibal was in her hotel room in his plastic murder suit waiting for her! It's worth going back to the first scene of "Su-zakana" -- the ice fishing scene. You correctly guessed that they weren't talking about fish, but every line of dialogue is a clue to what's been going on since. JACK: So how do you catch a fish that isn't hungry? WILL: Change your tactics. Use live bait that moves and excites them to action. JACK: You gotta make him bite even though he's not hungry. WILL: You have to create a reality where only you and the fish exist. Your lure is the one thing he wants, despite everything he knows. ... I'm a good fisherman, Jack. JACK: You hook him, I'll land him. The "longpig" Will brought to Hannibal was Randall Tier. We saw Freddie open a freezer full of meat that included a human jaw bone. That's why Will couldn't call the cops like a normal citizen about Randall attacking him. He's deeeeeeep undercover here. This episode originally aired a couple of days before Mother's Day, which makes the forced hysterectomy especially effed up. [rot13 for spoilers] "Lbh'ir tbg n oybbz, Znetbg." Abg lrg, ohg fbba. ;)

Mason is so repulsive. I remember one critic reviewing the Hannibal novel, describing Mason as so disgusting that he (the critic) felt like he need to remove his skin to get the stench off.

Yay! Welcome to the club where we suddenly find out that our collective yucky feelings about Will and the seemingly bonkers story arc over the last few episodes are the exact yucky feelings the writers have wanted us to feel all along. I have no doubt that the delicious relief we all felt upon our first watch of the series at the Freddie reveal, was the exact emotional payoff the writers intended. It’s a masterclass in storytelling, and know that many of us have probably been yelling at our screens over the last few weeks, “It’s going to be OK, Joe! What you think is going on is not what’s actually going on!” but biting our tongues in the comments so as to not spoil anything. Oh, and Mason is THE worst. Full stop.

Mason really can't see past his own ego and Hannibal is just sitting thinking "that idiot, he really can't see it". Also thematically, Hannibal is just someone that plays with his food before he eats them. He seems to do the same with Mason. But Mason is somehow worse than Hannibal, but I don't have the words to explain why that is. Having seen the show, the fate of Mason Verger is probably the most exciting and satisfying thing the show has period

Youtalkingtome

He absolutely is worse than Hannibal. They're both Evil but Verger crosses lines that Hannibal would not

Youtalkingtome

Yes, I have to go back and rewatch the last episode or two. God I'm so glad this is the case. Wild that he ate Randall!

Youtalkingtome

I never thought I'd be so happy to see Freddy alive lol

Actuarial Lurker

And to think that The Epstein files allegedly contain incidents of world leaders doing things similar to what Mason was doing and this is just a TV show is even sicker...

Actuarial Lurker

Makes me speculate that Will is waiving HIPAA and allowing his sessions with Lecter to be recorded...

He’s a good fisherman jack.
