Re: the ending scene: I think while Lorelei understands that her father is the "bad guy" in terms of Richard v Jason, to her, the absolute worst consequence already happened (Emily and Richard separated). To Jason, the worst consequence is him losing his "chosen career," and neither was willing to concede. (Though I do think Lorelei tends to look for Outs in Relationships so probably some of that as well.) *Edited to add, still loving the Gilmore Girls reactions!

That's a really great observation. I guess I need to see more of Richard and Lorelai's relationship moving forward, now that Lorelai has these new revelations.

I think Lorelai sympathises with Jason, but at the same time, her family is already experiencing a rift. A lawsuit where she's on one side and her family is on the other would probably make it difficult for reconciliation. Asshole or not, Richard *is* her father. And I always thought this was a fortuitous excuse for Lorelai to end a relationship she really wasn't invested in. It was way too easy for her to walk away.

Youtalkingtome

It's true, as complicated as things already are with the Gilmores, the lawsuit would be a further complication. I just feel like Jason is well within his rights to take action against Richard. Though you are probably right; this is a great opportunity for Lorelai to walk away from the relationship

I think Richard’s comments were so hurtful that Lorelai can’t stand to repeat them / is too embarrassed that that’s what her father thinks of her. I actually don’t even think it’s about preserving their relationship with Rory this time.

Youtalkingtome

That is probably the case, for sure. Richard shrugging and telling Lorelai to move away if she wants was so incredibly messed up. Richard has some serious changing to do in order not to ultimately be a villain.

I love that you mentioned Arrested Development in the intro, because ever since I first saw Arrested Development, I have said that Lucille Bluth is just Emily Gilmore plus a bottle of vodka.

I understand Lorelai's decision here, but not the way she makes it. She should tell Jason that she understands why he needs to defend himself, but that with her parents already in crisis she can't be part of it. This is why it was stupid for her to start dating her father's partner in the first place. But she shouldn't be getting angry with Jason over it - just saying that as much as she likes him, for Rory's sake at the least she can't give up on her family over it. That said, as much as Jason's in the right in this case, remember that he started up with Richard partly to screw his father over, and then pitched dating to Lorelai partly as something that would piss her parents off. So I feel like he had a hand in this all going wrong in the first place.

Not sure why everyone feels the need to exonerate Trix - look at the way she treated Emily. Richard comes by his haughty self-regard honestly.

I don't interpret Lorelai's reaction to the lawsuit the way you do. She knows perfectly well Richard is at fault. She's just saying as a matter of fact that a relationship with Jason while he's suing her father simply won't work. It's just not something that you can do. Plus, despite what anyone says now, I wouldn't put it past some grubby lawyer to try to make her give some deposition or testimony later down the line. Also, you didn't comment on it, but I thought the scene where Lane misses her mom and goes to see her at night was very emotional.

Shout-out to Kevin: I'm always impressed by the speed with which you read the list of names at the beginning, but this time you were definitely on "GG fast talking" level! :) I kinda like Jason (though wouldn't say I'm his biggest fan), and tend to lean more towards his perspective here, as in, what else is he supposed to do. I get where both are coming from, but Lorelai sounds a bit too "my way or the highway" here for my taste. She SAYS she understands, but it doesn't sound that way. More like "please don't do this, this is what I want...unbelievable!". No, it's not unbelievable, Lorelai. It sucks, but it is very understandable why he would do this.

Yasemin

Exactly, I also think it was an excuse for her to walk away, as she wasn't fully in it to begin with.

Richard was a dick. Rory was naive. Lorelai was a bad communicator and could have phrased it better. But Emily was a queen. Good on her for stepping up and away.

Roland

Wasn't expecting my H-Town to catch some stray rounds! 🤣

To answer your most important questions: "Bewitched" ran for 8 seasons, a total of 254 episodes. For those of us of a certain age, our psyches were - for better or worse - shaped by this show. And yes, that was a "Dynasty" reference, also familiar to those of us of a certain age. Nice catch, Kevin.

Youtalkingtome

Emily was 100% the most reasonable Gilmore in this episode, and good for her for standing up for herself.

It’s hard for me to understand why do you empathize with Jason so much - don’t forget that he went against his father to begin with and started a firm with his rival. If he were to communicate better with Floyd maybe it wouldn’t have gotten this far. Maybe it’s cause I never liked Jason and I wasn’t that affected by the whole situation. And not to defend Richard’s actions in any way, but why would you expect Lorelai to pick her boyfriend of 5 months side, when he’s suing her family?

Koko

On the one hand Lorelai is too selfish (Don't sue because I don't want that), on the other hand she's not selfish enough (Richard treated Jason and her so badly, she owns him no loyalty). BUT if she really was in love with Jason she wouldn't have left him. So it was better for the relationship to end anyway.
