Youtalkingtome

I am so happy she was game for this! What a legend!

Clare Manion

OMG, it’s Shirley MacLaine! She’s brilliant! And fabulous - decked out like Iris Apfel :) I like the theory about Alice - so far that definitely makes the most sense. It’ll be interesting to see how she fits into the rest of the story and what her motive might be…because even if she’s not the murderer, it definitely feels like she’s up to something.

The Jessica Savitch thing is an insane reference - as anyone of a certain age from the Philadelphia area would remember, she was a famous news anchor who crashed her car into a canal in New Hope, PA - a tiny artsy town north of Philly where a lot of New Yorkers used to come on vacation. The restaurant she’d just been at became kind of notorious and IIRC eventually had to slightly change its name and rebrand.

Youtalkingtome

I just read about her. What a tragic story. And of course Oliver would name-drop her.

Youtalkingtome

Yeah, Alice is definitely targeting Mabel, and I don't think it's innocent.

I gotta give it up for you two -- on first viewing, I made it through the whole episode without recognizing Shirley MacLaine. And even when her name appeared in the end credits, I wondered for a moment what small part she'd played, until sanity took over and I realized she had an important character. I also have learned that everybody but me immediately recognizes Cara Delevigne; I'm unaware of having seen her before, so what ought I to know her from?

Youtalkingtome

Kevin here. Joe knew Cara Delevigne, but I absolutely do not.

Suzanne Whyte

Cara Delavigne was in Suicide Squad, Valerian and Carnival Row which is a fantasy tv show on Amazon. She’s not a great actress but she’s a model and was in Taylor Swift’s “squad”. She’s a nepo baby who’s famous for being famous.

Suzanne Whyte

I’m also a coconut hater. It’s just unpleasant.

The shift in Mabel’s relationship with Oscar felt very abrupt and jarring. Has the actor been written off? Did they get rid of him so they could bring in a new love interest for Mabel?

DelGuy03

I feel that way about a similar choice in a later season, but in this instance I find myself unbothered: not every renewed friendship is going to be a permanent attachment. But reactions differ, of course.

Jamie Morgan

Yeah, I've gotta give it up for Amy Schumer in this episode. I'm not normally a fan, but her performance as Jan is hilarious - though not as hilarious as Shirley MacClaine absolutely shanking a wedge of cheese! As always, it is SO fun watching you try to figure it out. I'm really excited for this season, it has my favourite episode of the whole show.

Youtalkingtome

Amy Schumer really is bringing it. I'm not really her biggest fan either. Shirley MacClaine is always a delight

Youtalkingtome

It does feel like he has been written off. Maybe he was busy with another project?

Just like Don Draper In Season 6 hanging out by Sylvia's "utility entrance door". These older buildings tended to have service entrances for deliveries, servants, emergency egress etc. My wife and I lived in one of these buildings when we first got married before we bought a house and there was a whole hallway with service elevator connecting the back of each apartment

I remember Jessica Savitch but NOT her death- I was 17 and in the middle of taking SATs and applying to colleges so didn't pay attention to her death at the time
