Daniel Lydford

Gilmore Girls was in its final season of its original run when this aired.

Mithroch

Nope... you guys are wrong. Bill Parcells never won another playoff game. His Superbowl wins were long in the past by this time. You might be thinking of Bill Belechick

Youtalkingtome

Oh my god, of course. My brain was off. Parcells won 2 with the Giants, and I was definitely thinking of Belichick. Oops!

Mithroch

Damnit... I can't remember which of you replies with this account... because I really want to make fun of Steelers fans.

Michael Bennett

I like this version of the journalist who writes an article about the main characters better than MacKenzie's ex on The Newsroom. Probably because the way she gets people to talk is with empathy, which is harder for someone carrying that relationship baggage. I knew that Jordan was going to get the show she wanted *because* she passed on the other one, I should've known it was going to be Danny's street cred that sealed the deal. This was just a really solid episode. The sketches still aren't that funny. I actually liked the one where Jenny didn't have a baby yet more than the rest.

Jonathan

Judy Holliday was a great comedic actress who had a tragically short career due to McCarthyism and dying of breast cancer in her early 40s. Bells Are Ringing was her last film. I haven't seen that yet but I loved her in Solid Gold Cadillac

Carl Wilson

The Harriet-Matt thing is a bit annoying to me in that what's separating them seems pretty flimsy. This is why it keeps moving so quickly - the only obstacle is their religious differences, which I would buy if she were actually a Christian conservative, but she's not. She's an unobjectionable liberal Christian. And he's not some fanatical atheist zealot. All she has to say is "you're right, I made a mistake going on 700 Club, because I don't agree with their values" and that would be that. Or Matt could just forgive her for it anyway. So all the drama feels a bit unwarranted.

Carl Wilson

Otherwise, mostly good writing on the interactions with the journalist this week. My one objection - when Matt is sitting there trying to work on deadline, a good reporter would have gotten out of the room a lot faster. You risk burning him as a source by harassing him at tense moments like that. In fact she is doing *way more of that with the whole cast than she should in the final day to air - she had the whole week to do interviews, now is the time to lurk and get color. But I will give the show dramatic license on that, because they need her to be integrated into the other storylines.

The comment about Sting appearing as Sting a lot made me laugh out loud because I could instantly recall like 4 things off the top of my head! I was fortunate enough to see Sting life a few years ago and all I will say it is that it doesn’t matter what Sting song you thought was your favourite before the concert…after leaving…it’s Fields of Gold..

Youtalkingtome

I completely agree. Sting is a legend, but Fields of Gold is my all-time favorite of his.

Youtalkingtome

The appearance on the 700 Club warranted a serious discussion, perhaps even a sincere argument / fight. But I agree, breaking up with someone you love over a mistake like that seems extreme.

Youtalkingtome

I agree about the Jenny sketch. It wasn't great, but it seemed funnier than the others we have seen. Too bad it wound up on the chopping block (Nancy Grace was WAY too clunky and overlong).

AudeAudor

I really love d the song Sting played, "Come again" by John Dowland. The album is very enchanting too

Sorkin is what I call "dinner party funny", which makes him good at writing witty repartee. It doesn't necessarily translate to writing sketch comedy.

Alex

It must be difficult to write a character that writes jokes. I wonder if it was by design that the show is funnier than the sketches.

Paul Verburg

Christine Lahti, who plays the reporter, is such a great actress. And she handles Sorkin’s writing really well. I’m surprised she’s not in more of his work.

Paul T Hewes

I got to see the Police reunion tour in the late 2000s...Never got to a Sting solo tour concert. "Ten Summoner's Tales" will always be my favorite.

Dil

It was so good…and encompassing so many different genres! Sting is a one of a kind talent!

Mariska Costeris

The sketches are just dire, even in the short clips we see. Are they meant to be? I love everything else, the look of the set, the feel of backstage.

Mithroch

Or... are you Joe pretending to be Kevin to avoid a nasty burn? 🤔 Don't think I don't see you slinking away... I'M ON TO YOU!

Tina

I always forget what a slow burn this is because apart from when it aired, I always end up binge watching within max. 3 days. Thanks for your reaction. Your musings are really fun because they remind me that S60 as a whole, and the pacing, are anything but inevitable.

Ashley Thomas

there are 7 cast members on the show, the big three, jeanne, impression guy, other guy, and other woman. in episode two you can see them in the cold open during the song with harriet in the middle and three people on either side of her.
