Elleanor Hansen

This is the most important episode of the series imo. A real turning point! My favorite seasons are now in the past, but arguably some of the best episodes and arcs are to come. Can’t wait to see future reactions :)

LB Mac

Y'all went from euphoria to horror with a quickness! 😄 I've been waiting for this reaction since the Pilot and it didn't disappoint! Everything about this episode was great despite R&D. Lorelai's clumsiness in Luke's presence was especially entertaining. She's always been so confident and charmingly flirty with men, but Luke's attentions turned her into discombobulated goo.

Elizabeth Gates

Not sure if you picked up on it, but the person Rory was trying to call at the end was Dean, but Lynsey picked up.

Youtalkingtome

OH MY GOD, that's so much worse!! I thought it was Lane.

Youtalkingtome

I think her genuine discombobulation with Luke here was delightful, and a good sign for their future.

Youtalkingtome

I can't wait to see the fallout in the next episode!

Roland

Rory did something genuinely terrible, but Lorelai trying to take the higher ground is weak. "I didn't raise you to be this way!" Well, when we look at Lorelai's trainwreck of a personal life - twice earlier this very day alone! (Jason/Luke and her parents) - I kinda think Lorelai actually DID raise her kid to be an emotional f**k-up, and this is one of the inevitable outcomes. Philip Larkin had it right: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/48419/this-be-the-verse

Roland

It was clear on the subtitles, but I might have missed it too otherwise.

Ari

I was giddy all week waiting for ya'll to get to this one! It still surprises me every time I realize that Rory really went there, and the writers really took her storyline there. I do think Dean and Rory are both equally to blame. But also agree with ya'll that young people do dumb stuff sometimes, and no one is irredeemable!

I🖤Kraken

I think we all have to fight against the rationalization of entitlement, especially in Western countries. We're all ingrained from childhood with the confidence that we are going to be the best and deserve everything we want but rarely are we given a map of the hard work needed to attain what we want. Love the last scene of Rory crumbling at the feet of her mother--her foundation. All that charisma, all that beauty, all that privilege doesn't mean a damn thing if it's only shielding laziness, selfishness and self-absorption. LOVE this episode!

Allison O

It’s wild to remember that Jason is still there somewhere. The Luke and Lorelai scenes are great enough that I’m willing to deal with the rest of the episode :). You guys’ descent into resignation throughout the episode was hilarious. Yeah, Rory has to do the stupid thing. At some point something has to break her sense of entitlement and it hasn’t been much challenged since season one when she realized Chilton was hard.

James Roberts

Rory's exclamation of "He was my boyfriend FIRST!" never fails to infuriate me. Like, what are you? Six??

Naomi Bronner

I honestly think Lorelai was mostly thinking that if she locked Richard and Emily in a room together they would finally crack and admit that they were separated. Which may not be very kind but I can see why having to pretend that everything is fine between them would be really frustrating.

Carl Wilson

You're definitely right that this is the cultural myth we live under. I would not say that everyone here grows up that way, in ways both better and much much worse.

Carl Wilson

I'm not sure how it would have been done structurally - and I get the "tune in next season" power of that final shot of Rory on the steps - but I really wish we could have ended on the Luke and Lorelai moment in some way.

Carl Wilson

Surely nobody has ever compared Dean to Tony Soprano before, and I loved it.

dys

Clearly Lorelai is over Jason, and don't get me wrong I FAR prefer her and Luke as a couple, but I don't think he was wrong for trying to give it another shot. They both recognized Richard was being awful to him, but she ultimately took her dad's side over Jason's even though she knew her dad was in the wrong... and I'd guess Jason just thought she needed some time to process the shock of her boyfriend suing her dad, and that he was being a good boyfriend by not giving up on the relationship so easily. You're absolutely right that that should have been a phone call though, not Jason trying to force the conversation by imposing himself at the inn. Rory was so ready to be back with Dean that she let herself hear what she wanted to hear. Dean says it's basically over with Lindsay, but does not actually say it's over, and I don't absolve Rory at all for not hearing what he actually said but that was how she excused it as not cheating. But then the defensiveness after her mom points that out, and the "he was my boyfriend first"... yeah, you screwed up kid.

Yasemin

OMG I loved watching this with you! What an ep, right?! The "will you stand still" is everything. Your reaction was so fun to watch, too! And the girl on the phone in the last scene is Lindsay.

Yasemin

Some of your commentary right now has me SO excited for the premiere of season 5! Not spoiling, not spoiling, LOL!

Yasemin

You have a point about Lauren's performance in that scene, I always think her face says everything, and even her calm (but exploding inside) tone of voice when she says "so...what did he borrow?"

Dil

Plenty has been said about this fantastic episode and I echo all of it… I just want to add that I’m going to miss Tom.. he was such a fantastic character with one liners that always hit! That actor really did so much with so little!

AudeAudor

I agree but Rory did ask him first "what about Lindsay? where are you with her?" and I think thaht if Dean had been honest with her, she wouldn't have crossed the line. Or at least she would have felt way more guilty. The "it's over with Lindsay, we're unhappy" was the last barrier. Rory could have maybe kissed him (it's already bad, i know), but would have realised it was bad indeed and could not pursue. At least that is what I'm thinking or prefer to think ^^

Yasemin

He is great! And I think it's not a major spoiler to say that he is not entirely gone. :)

Taniaxxxx

I love and hate this episode :) Lorelai and Luke - finally love this! You guys are great haha love how pleased you were. Rory and Dean ugh

fire12wife

Luke can waltz! Superb reaction, guys!!! I'm so glad that kiss FINALLY happened!!! Now we can get on with it! Aaaaaaand... GO!

Sarah P

Having Taylor as a guest for their dress rehearsal was actually probably a good choice for the inn — if they can have someone like him leave satisfied, they can handle ANYONE.

Youtalkingtome

I loved it. Of course the Rory thing was tough but the drama is so high right now!

Youtalkingtome

She's so underrated. I would love to see her work more

Youtalkingtome

I know he disappeared only a few episodes ago but it felt like ages!

Allison O

But I mean also - still in the building! Like all this is happening and he’s off in the bathroom or petting a horse or something. Possibly petting a horse in the bathroom, depending on whether it has a door yet.

fire12wife

Luke and Lorelai could not be any more perfect for each other! He's the only one who gets her, and knows how to take care of her and to be there for her. She's a handful and a half, but Luke loves all of her quirks and and loves her for who she is! He has always been there for Rory, too! It's about damn time that Luke and Lorelai just opened their eyes, and look at what's been in front of them the whole time! One of the best kisses ever put on film! Love it so much!

fire12wife

Plus, Taylor is involved in all things Stars Hollow, so you always want to 'make nice' with the people you have to do business with. It was a smart move! Plus, Taylor would find EVERY issue they had, so they can address it before the grand opening!

fire12wife

Your reaction to their first kiss was the best! Makes me feel like I'm watching it again for the first time!

fire12wife

When Lorelai says to Tom... I'm loving you like a 2 dollar whore, and Tom says, "Terrific I'll tell the wife", is one of my favorite lines from him!

fire12wife

Thank God we don't have to wait 4 or 5 months before we can watch the next episode! How did we ever survive watching shows that way?!?!?!

Zach Hershman

Rory and Dean deserve each other. Two people who have no problem cheating (remember, she cheated on Dean) on others shouldn't be with good people. They'll just hurt them. I hate cheaters.

Zach Hershman

It's all a chain reaction. Lorelai got it from her parents. Rory got it from Lorelai.

Zach Hershman

She almost kissed Dean several times before that question even came up. I don't think Rory deserves the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Roland

Excellent point.

Carl Wilson

The other thing she's really great in is Parenthood, an important part of a great ensemble, playing a single mother (and daughter) again. She never seemed to have great luck with movie roles. But between the two series, a successful career I hope she's satisfied with. She would have thrived in earlier eras of more screwball romantic comedy.

Yasemin

Parenthood was so good!

Jackie H

Others have said but I'll join in, haha!: I loved that you guys had the same reaction we all did seeing Luke and Lorelai finally kiss!

Gail Hislop

Dean was just really pushing to sleep with Rory when he was in her room and it really almost felt like he coerced her into that. And Rory shows both her immaturity in her actions and justification. And the 'Rory is so perfect' crown she has been wearing has fallen!!! Also that was Dean she ws calling and Lyndsey who answered which is why she broke down because reality hit

Koko

That's more a US thing. In many European countries you learn the opposite: You are not better than the rest.

Koko

Now the best seasons imo are over. From now on it gets weaker and weaker but there are some nice storylines. I am very curious for your opinion.
