Yes! Catching this at night (located in Europe) as I am still up, was usually watching "the next morning". :)

Elizabeth Gates

I was never Team Dean but, this episode, he waved so many red flags that bulls from other countries started crossing oceans to charge at him.

Lindsey Swift

Welp, Richard just informed me, again, that I'm a "prostitute"......lol.....smh

Youtalkingtome

The psychological abuse he hurled at Lindsey makes me really hope Jess comes back and punches him really hard.

Jonathan

Here is my view on the Dean situation. I agree everything he did was bad and idiotic but I wouldn’t go so far as saying Dean is evil. It was idiotic for Dean and Lindsay to get married at 18. The show hasn’t given Lindsay enough backstory to explain why she would get married but from what we’ve seen she has her issues. The fight was Dean projecting especially when he made that comment about he always misses out. They both need some counseling for their future happiness and probably get a divorce. I saw the dinner scene as him trying to make himself happy with this situation.

Jonathan

The wonka CD was a callback to their first date having movie night at the house and also the callback to falling asleep at Pattys after the dance.

Jonathan

It’s interesting that the actress playing Lindsay I’ve seen in other things and she always plays a very confident strong woman. I bet this role annoyed her.

Youtalkingtome

On several occasions, I, too, have failed Richard's "are you a prostitute" test.

LB Mac

If I remember correctly, the real phone number Luke gave was the actual number for a charity Scott Patterson supported and a lot of fans called out of curiosity. It was a pretty cool way to make peeps aware of the organization, can't at all remember what it was though.

Youtalkingtome

You're completely correct on the limited time we have seen their relationship to know what and how deep the issues in their marriage are (they absolutely never should have gotten married). His rotten treatment of Lindsey the night before aside, I have a REAL problem with him telling Rory that he and Lindsey have both acknowledged their marriage is over to get Rory to have sex with him, only to see him making that effort with Lindsey a day later.

LB Mac

I got the impression that he was really enjoying that rare moment of marital bliss.

Jonathan

I’m pretty sure you are right I had forgotten about that.

LB Mac

I think at this point, Sookie had been as invested in Luke and Lorelai as the fans. She's been poking Lorelai about her feelings for him for four years and her reaction to them kissing mirrored mines back in the day.

Elizabeth Gates

I feel like there's a stereotype of guys being really nice to their wives when they're cheating because they feel guilty. Not that that would be great behavior either, but I'm really uncomfortable seeing him yell at her like that for a situation that is so squarely his fault. Even the angles of that shot, with him standing, and her making herself smaller in the chair, are obviously making a point. I don't think Dean would actually hit her, but he definitely -- and consistently -- has been shown to have anger issues.

fire12wife

I had heard that, too! I wonder if that number is in use now... what's it connected to? I may have to check that out!

Lara

i never understood why lane didn't question rory more for this

Youtalkingtome

My guess is that they have always had a bit of a power-imbalance in their relationship; to me, Rory has always felt like the center of attention, even to Lane. So, maybe Lane doesn't feel like she has the power / right to push back against Rory?

Carl Wilson

I understand, and have felt this way too, but I think you are being too hard on Dean - he absolutely is in the wrong here, but I think he's emotionally in way way way over his head. He's a nineteen year old who married somebody he'd only been dating, what, a few months, because he was still in love with his ex. Then he starts having an affair with the ex, and of course that's what he wanted but he doesn't know what to do, so first he lashes out and then he tries to be nice, both of them out of guilt. I don't think he's "decided to be a bad guy" and I don't think he's "on top of the world" and "happy to have a side girl." He's just immature and completely out of control. The character we've known for four seasons has his problems but he does normally try to be a good person, and I hope Rory going away helps him think through it the same way she needs to.

Youtalkingtome

All completely fair, of course. I will have to see what transpires with this mess moving forward. At some point, he needs to take some personal responsibility.

Sarah P

Rory and Dean hits even worse when you remember that we were — correctly — on Dean’s side when he broke up with Rory in the first place, because she was having an *emotional* affair with Jess. I can’t stand either of their behavior right now. The lunch was fun because it reminds us that — A) The premise for this show was expressed as, “there’s a mother and a daughter, and they are best friends.” B) Despite that, this show is really about THREE generations of Gilmore Girls.

Gail Hislop

'An Option 3 for Rory' in a boyfriend........ waiting patiently. Dean was such a dick this whole episode!! How he treated Lindsay when he got home and went off at her about answering his phone was just appalling and immature and pure guilt . Following it up with more cheating the next day and again it felt like he was manipulating Rory into it, as he had at her home the night before. Poor Lindsay. Loved the whole scene of Emily in the basement and her climbing out the window in defiance of Richard. Her reference to 'it will be just like Gigi' about taking Rory to Paris was an odd one because in that film Gigi was 16 and being trained to be a courtesan in the1900's!! Then again Rory is the other woman at this point.

Onno Smits

This episode was rough to get through. Watching people make such avoidable mistakes is so frustrating. By the way, I didn't get an email notification nor a push notification that you posted this. That happens on occasion with your Patreon for me. That never happens for any of the other creators I patron. It's weird.

Carl Wilson

Lane is *so sheltered - did she and Dave even get to make out in the brief period she had her one boyfriend ever? She's also lived vicariously through a lot of Rory's relationship drama, has always looked up to her and Lorelai. So she's prone to romanticizing it all like a tween, unfortunately.

fire12wife

When Lorelai came home and "caught" Rory and Dean, it just proves yet again, how stupid they are... if Dean had just stayed in her room either behind the door, or in the closet, Lorelai never would have known Dean was even there! You know. I LOVE THIS SHOW, but this cheating thing with Dean makes me feel like they jumped the shark a little bit with that... not entirely, but I would have expected something like that in season 7, when Amy Sherman Palladino was no longer with the show. Just with the Dean and Rory storyline though... Luke and Lorelai together is EVERYTHING!!!

fire12wife

I called the number Luke gave her (860)294-1986, and I got the automated voicemail... "You have reached (860)294-1986, please leave your message after the tone." So it's an active number, but to what, I don't know! At least my number has the same area code, so it looks like a legitimate call and not a spam call! 🤣🤣🤣

LB Mac

😂 I googled...it was to a John Hopkins Hospital charity for kids run by SP's doctor bro in law...there was a recorded message by SP when you called. Then it became a private number, but the annoyed owner deactivated it because GG fans kept calling it over the years.

Roland

Well with Emily leaving Richard to travel through Europe, at least we know how the spin-off show Emily In Paris comes about....

Yasemin

Sookie: "My lips are sealed!" Kevin: "Maybe, let's see." LOL :)

Yasemin

I think Dean might be picking a fight with his wife to sort of justify what he just did (in his mind). As in, "we both know it's over".

Yasemin

Oh, I remember you guys even just a few episodes ago, saying "nah, that wouldn't happen on this show"....:) Couldn't wait to get there, but you are right, it happened organically, believably.

The Inedible Mattman

I like that the ONE thing that went "right" or "good" in the episode is the connection between Lorelai and Luke. At the start of this season, the audience REALLY needed that.

Zach Hershman

This was her first "major" role after moving to Hollywood. She has never had anything but good things to say about the show.

Zach Hershman

Why is it a "jump the shark" moment for you? Cheating, sadly, happens quite often in the real world. It also isn't really a huge leap for her character. She cheated on Dean with Jess. Sure, that was only a kiss, but it was at a time in her life when a kiss was a huge deal. I think this is just a further development of who she actually is at this point in her life.

Dayana Belovezhdova

Ah yes, welcome to the Dean hate train, we’ve been expecting you 🚂😂 Jokes aside, the writers portrayed infidelity amazingly - Dean getting mad because of his guilt and he’s projecting, I actually seen the exact behaviour irl for cheating

Andrea Krehbiel

So Dean has been a total scumbag the last couple episodes, but can we all agree that Dirtbag!Dean with his fuzzy face is way hotter than ResponsibleHighSchoolBoyfriend!Dean?

Koko

Oh yes!

Koko

I think it's more curiousity because Lane hasn't done it yet. So that overweighs everything else.

Koko

Yeah, I think that's what shocked Rory, too. Seeing Lindsey at the butcher, making such an effort for Dean. She must have realized that he lied to her.

Oceanflower

I strongly disagree. He's been possessive and toxically jealous as a person from the start. It showed with how he treated Rory when they were together. How he would get mad at her when she wouldn't do things how he wanted (e.g. when she didn't wanna act like a 50s housewife). He would lash out at her in anger when he became jealous - even before Rory was ever interested in Jess - and yell at her, gaslight and accuse her until Rory was the one to go to him and try to make it up to him and apologise even when she did nothing wrong. Only then he would apologise. And that was a pattern in their relationship. The same thing happened again when he was jealous over her sending Jess away. It was Rory who approached him to soothe him and his ego. He gave her the cold shoulder because he's hot and cold all the time. He's super warm and sweet one minute, then when things don't go his way he lashes out with anger and aggression and completely withdraws his warmth and affection until the girl he's with comes to him and tries to soothe him. And because he's nice and sweet half the time, his toxic behaviour gets excused. It's honestly textbook. The way he treats Lindsey is straight up abuse, no other word for it. He is emotionally abusing her. He yells at her and berates her, gaslights her about her supposed intelligence ('you dont get it do you') and blames her for making him mad. She in response has started to walk on eggshells around him to try to avoid setting him off. She's also visibly started to make herself smaller when he yells at her. She tries super hard to appease him by being the perfect housewife in the hopes that he won't be mad and yell at her. Yes he's a 19 year old kid who's way in over his head. He's also an abusive husband and a toxic boyfriend. Both of those things are true. You say he's just a kid and immature. Yes, but Lindsey and Rory are also just kids and immature. I'm really glad Joe and Kevin are as hard on Dean as they are because I'm kinda tired of teen boys/young men not being held responsible for their actions because of immaturity, while everyone in their blast radius (especially teen girls/young women) has to deal with the hurt and the consequences.

Carl Wilson

That's all totally fair, and maybe I was minimizing it too much.
