So much of note in this episode - Answer to your question as to what was Lorelai referencing to Luke about their first date; the classic John Hughes movie Some Kind of Wonderful. The Kathryn Joosten cameo. Luke’s iconic line - ‘I am ALL in’ part of Gilmore Girls fandom legend and the title of the rewatch Podcast with Scott Patterson. First impressions of some people aren’t always accurate - although yes Colin sucks and someone should slap him, Finn (Australian not British!) is actually delightful in his own drunken, womanising way and ‘that blonde guy’ Logan the wonderful Matt Cauchy) has definitely entered the storyline and that’s all I’ll say for now. But yes he actually was quite polite to Marty and Rory was very judgemental in her approach to him on their second encounter. Watch this space. And hmm, Dean. Rory is not going to let that go easily, saying to Marty ‘will you excuse me for a minute’ and actually driving all the way to Stars Hollow pretty much says it all.

This has always been one of my favorite episodes. I’m such a L&L fan. Plus, I find the town meeting stuff hilarious. I used to have a script of this episode, signed by the whole main cast as well as Amy Sherman-Palladino. But then it got ruined when my house flooded. 🙁 it was a cool possession while I had it though!

To be honest, at this point I've had enough of Dean and Rory and enough of talking about Dean and Rory. Period. And I'm mad that it gets in the way of Rory potentially dating Marty, a character I like so much. But that aside, this is one of my favourite episodes of the whole series, just because Luke & Lorelai's first date is so wonderful - Sniffy's! the horoscope in the wallet! And Luke: "This thing we're doing, you and me? I am in, I am all in." Gives me very misty rom-com feelings. Then the fallout in the town is so hilarious, beginning with Lorelai going down to the diner with no pants, through the town meeting and Luke's heroic speech there. And I actually find Paris's reaction to Asher's death pretty moving, along with the comic relief of the wake where she's oblivious to what's actually going on, with Emily showing up there as the cherry on top. Okay one Dean and Rory thing: It's pretty funny they mentioned Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor in this episode and then you made a joke about Dean & Rory being like "those celebrities who get divorced and then get married again."

You're getting pretty spoilery here. Let's not talk about what characters are going to be like in the future.

Carl Wilson

Aww, I'm so sorry that happened. What a great thing to have owned.

I agree with you that the Luke & Lorelei date was so lovely, and the ending of Rory going to Dean’s house at the end makes me want to scream at her every time I watch it! Absolutely hate her “not being sure if she’s in a relationship” or not. I’m so glad at how much you all hate Dean too. I have always been a Dean hater, haha.

Youtalkingtome

Right? I get that Rory is young and a romantic novice, but I am so perplexed that she would consider their situation to be anything remotely close to a relationship.

Youtalkingtome

I really hope Dean isn't going to be on the show much longer.

Gail Hislop

I disagree Carl! I haven’t given any spoilers just said what my impression was of a few new characters based on this episode.

Every time you say "and that's all I'll say for now" or something similar, you are giving a spoiler. You did the same on the last episode when you said something about the current Dean and Rory story not being over yet. You may not think it is a spoiler, but it is. You are telling someone (like me) who hasn't seen the show that a story continues, or that more is to come.

Loved the first date. I usually don’t find Luke as attractive as most of the fans do (I blame most of it on the cap) but he made even me swoon this episode! Emily was hilarious this episode. Squarely on the side of the blond guy in that scene. I wouldn’t call it a debate as much as banter and Rory was pretty much the instigator. He said no thanks when she asked if she asked if he could.. perfectly reasonable response… he assumed/enquired if she had an intimate relationship with the professor and let’s be honest wasn’t off base because that’s exactly what the situation was just the girl hanging the poster was wrong! And it was Rory who started off the whole spiel about people being beneath him and talking to them like servants..his friends were douchy yes but he did call out Collin and told him not to be an ass when he was being rude to Marty! All in all…Rory made more assumptions about him than he did about her or Marty for that matter!

Youtalkingtome

Kevin here. I agree for my part; he didn’t rub me nearly as badly as he did Joe. Just different life experiences, I suppose.

First-time watcher here. Without taking sides in this case, I'd always recommend steering clear of stuff like "keep an eye on this character!". Although it's not a direct spoiler, it risks changing the way I will experience the show.

You’re not wrong about the whole “relationship” of Dean and Rory. I will say that for better or worse, Dean was her first sexual encounter. Rory is a bit of a romantic after reading all her books. It makes sense that she would be feeling confused about the whole thing and wanting to define what she’s feeling.

Jiiinx1753

I don’t think Luke would ever move away, it’s far more likely for Lorelei to want to move away but they both have businesses and friends in town. I don’t see anyone moving away whether they break up or not.

Jiiinx1753

I think Logan and Paris are similar in the sense that they grew up with rich snobby people but they can have potential in the right environment.

Koko

Logan is so annoying! About Dean: They/he already destroyed his marriage, I would give the relationship between Rory and him a chance.
