Oh. You are absolutely right. The operative word for this episode is ‘gross.’ And I agree 1000% -- thank God Mason Verger is dead. To be perfectly honest, I felt like his character was kind of a drag on the show - not in terms of pacing, but tone. This is a very dark show, yet highly sophisticated. But Mason Verger is kind of the logical antithesis of that - he’s all vulgarity and constantly saying the base, needlessly gross thing out loud. I never quite understood why anyone went along with his BS — and now even after he’s dead, Margot is going to have her brother’s baby? Why? To keep the money? Screw the money! I’m sorry but, [various exasperated profanities] … Well, anyway, very glad we won’t have to deal with that psychopath anymore. “Cue the Whitney Huston” — Y’know, you’re not wrong. In many ways from the very beginning of the show through this episode, I think Will and Hannibal have been coming at this relationship from different angles. Will thought he was in a cat-and-mouse game like Petrovich and Raskolnikov (do you happen to know Crime and Punishment?). Meanwhile, Hannibal clearly thought this whole thing was a sort of romance - intellectually if nothing else… So it’ll be very interesting to see how the final few episodes play out.

> Lady Chiyoh (played by Tao Okamoto) uses a suppressed Remington 700PSS (Police Sniper Special) in Hannibal. She is frequently seen equipped with the .300 Win Mag variant of this rifle, outfitted with a Leupold Mark 4 scope and a Harris bipod. She famously uses it from a Florence rooftop in the episode "Dolce" to wound Will Graham, and again in "Digestivo" to eliminate corrupt Italian detectives. <

I love the character of Cordell, he's basically a Hannibal Lecter from Wish.com, brilliantly brought to life by Glenn Fleshler.

There are ongoing efforts to use pigs to grow replacement organs for humans. So while using a pig as a human surrogate is probably impossible...it's only probably impossible 🤩

The cattle prod on the prostrate comes directly from the book. Per the book, apparently it's a veterinary(?) technique, but I haven't dared do any more research than that! 🤣🥶

The concept of Hannibal voluntarily getting himself incarcerated for Will's benefit (as it were), is genius-level writing. 🙂

I think the baby being incubated in the pig is (or at least is meant to be) Margot's and Will's that Mason removed. The timeline fits, at least. That is maybe the most disturbing part of this insane episode and it says everything about Mason and what he thinks of women. Hannibal surrendering is such a brilliant choice and a reminder that this show has never been about "how are they going to catch him," but instead "how is he going to keep getting away with it." And the answer is -- as long as he wants. And the only reason he's in FBI custody is that he wants to be.

I'm really excited to see where we go. PLEASE GOD I hope we don't hear the name Verger in these final episodes.

Youtalkingtome

I really like that take about them not catching him. That is such great writing

Youtalkingtome

Totally. It took Hannibal no time at al to dispatch him
