Oh wow, it sounds like you didn’t know in advance that Martin Short was in this as well. It’s great seeing them reunite in Only Murders in the Building isn’t it. I’ve been looking forward to this reaction. Thanks guys.

When harry met sally was Nora ephron!

Ben Gilbert

I'm curious to see this. I've only watched the original version with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor.

Youtalkingtome

I actually remembered that near the end! Late save! :)

Clare! Thank you so much. Day officially made. What a stellar cast. Just think that cute kid is Roman Roy, lol.

The funniest thing to me about the hot dog buns is that he was buying three packs of 12 hot dog buns and removing four of them to get a total of 24. Presumably meaning he meant to buy 24 hot dogs, too. He could have totally gotten three packs of eight hot dogs and two packs of 12 hot dog buns, wound up with the same number, no jail needed.

HALLOO! Five months not much…

There’s a hilarious SNL skit about FOB from when Steve Martin and Martin Short hosted a few years back. “Did you forget that Kieran Culkin was in this? So did we. So did he. But now he’s in Succession, so good for him!”

When she said Brain was like her dad people do marry someone who is like their parents studies show up to 80-90%.

Oh my goodness, guys - I am absolutely over the moon that you liked this one as much as you did! This is one of my comfort movies. Perhaps not least because Steve Martin reminds me so much of my own dad. He has a similar look and he does still kinda believe that he should be able to buy a pair of athletic shoes for $12.95, so… Also, yes, Nancy Meyers movies have such a wonderful late 90’s vibe. However, the ones you mentioned, Sleepless in Seattle in particular, are by Nora Ephron. But don’t feel bad for confusing them, they have a similar, wonderful aesthetic. Indeed, I think you guys would enjoy the sequel tremendously. I’ll gladly add it to your list the next time the budget allows. As always, thank you so much for watching! I’m delighted that you enjoyed it so much ❤️

"Don't do it, George!" Joe is all of us throughout the whole movie. Nina (Diane Keaton) deserves a medal for putting up with this man, lol.

Erin Mileur

I’m actually surprised that the first reaction when their daughter said she was getting married so suddenly wasn’t them asking are you pregnant.

I've only ever seen it occur in movies, but I don't understand the whole leaving for the honeymoon before the reception is over thing. I wouldn't wanna miss half the party. Makes no sense to me.

JustALilTired

This and it’s sequel are remakes of Spencer Tracey and Elizabeth Taylor films, the sequel is just as charming…Cheaper by the Dozen is also a remake of a 1950 film with Myrna Loy (who you saw in The Thin Man) as the mom. Another classic you should watch is 1987s Baby Boom!

Just Lily

If you ever be curious the original is father of the bride 1950 with Spencer Tracy and Elizabeth Taylor. In this case I prefer the original

Youtalkingtome

I think someone let us know that he was in this, but it completely slipped my mind

Youtalkingtome

Thank you so much for picking this! I can't wait to buy this bluray. It's so watchable. I just wanna have it on repeat

Do yourselves a favour and add Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid and Baby Mama to your must-see Steve Martin List. If you haven’t seen them. DMDWP is a parody of film noir detective stories and Baby Mama stars Tina Fey and Amy Poehler as a would-be mother (Fey) who hires a surrogate (Poehler), and they are quite the odd couple, while Fey works for Martin as an executive for a Whole Foods stand-in. Martin is always showboating, he runs on vibes, and he has a silly grey ponytail. Greg Kinnear and Sigourney Weaver round out the cast and the film is so much fun.

oh, please do the sequel, I have SUCH a soft spot for it! one of those "well, we have this VHS so let's watch it constantly" but it makes me cry every time

i do think it's wild that nina and george are meant to be 44 and 45 (she says she was 22 when annie, 22, was born, he says it snowed last when he was 9 and that it's been 36 years since). if i had guessed, i'd have said they came off as early 50s.

i almost said i thought it was lucille ball in the original cheaper by the dozen, but realized that was yours, mine & ours (remade with rene russo and dennis quaid). it's hard to keep my movies about parents with an insane quantity of children straight, i guess.

No, it wasn't just something in the movies... that's how it used to be at weddings... if the bride and groom had to leave their reception to catch a flight for their honeymoon, they would leave their party, early! Fortunately people started to realize how ridiculous that was. My sister left her wedding reception early, but I didn't want to do that for mine. I told my (future) husband, that I wanted to wait a week to leave on our honeymoon, so we could visit with all of the people who came from far away for the wedding. Our honeymoon could wait, being with everyone was more important! I'm sure by now leaving early is a thing of the past, for the most part. Doesn't make any sense to pay for a reception, and then not even get to enjoy it!

Another classic with a remake in the 2000s, the og was Lucille Ball and Peter Fonda I believe, with Van Johnson as a side character. The remake had Dennis Quaid and Rene Russo. I never saw the remake but love the original.
