What? You don’t remember Buffy’s sister Dawn? That’s weird, she’s been here the whole time!

Kirsten Stewart

This is one of the best seasons of television, peak storytelling, character development, acting performances. I’m soooo excited to be on this journey with you guys!!

Mitchell

There is a specific episode in season 1 or 2 when Joyce says to Buffy “I guess it’s good you were an only child” …. That’s all I’ll say

Neill Shaughness

Why you guys acting weird about Buffy's sister?

vala p

That one scene, with her and Faith and the Mayor, still makes me laugh to think about it.😉

Anjali Agarwal

Welcome to one of the best seasons of television!

NOam Gold-Utting

Guys not remembering Dawn is understandable but don't act like she hasn't been there the whole time, thats just rude

Michelle

I don't recall if either of the guys mentioned Michelle Trachtenberg when she passed or if it even popped up on their radar when she was mentioned as a BTVS star. If so and they were wondering, well, here she is. Edit: this is why we wait until the episode is over to comment. Clearly they noted when she passed.

Michelle

Also, it was a Lucy, friend of Mina, that Dracula killed in the movie, at least. Haven't read the book in awhile, but I revisit the movie occasionally.

sharkey197

Some shows jump the shark. Buffy lassoed it, put it in a cage and made a pet out of it. Introducing Dawn is one of the boldest and creatve moves ever. Season 5 is a wild ride and my favorite. Enjoy!

CJGardner

Pointless trivia: buffy and vlad were a couple on All My Children, when they were wee little munchkin actors, so at the time for those who knew it was just a bit extra fun. Also your memories are terrible, Dawn's been there since day one - sheesh!

Barbara Panigot

Ding! Ding! Ding! I give you a thousand thumbs up. 😁😁😁

Alex

10pm in the UK, but i had to stay up to watch this one. Buckle up, it's going to be a glorious season.

Youtalkingtome

Thanks! I read the novel for a book report in 8th grade, so it's been a minute.

Giuseppe D

Ah Season 5, my favourite! That's all I'll say for now 🤭

Michelle

The book is written in a journal format as written by Jonathon Harker, and a overall years ago I signed up for a thing that sent you an email daily with the snippet from that day's date. It wad a fun way to consume literature, but I didn't retain much of it.

Chris Warner

My personal season rankings often change for the other six seasons but this will always be number one and it is not close, a season where every episode matters. I like that they start this season directly addressing common complaints about last season. We see the gang all together on the beach instead of separated, we have Giles and Buffy agreeing to train again, and we get the promise of more Buffy and Joyce together.

vala p

The Kendall and Anton years were prime AMC viewing.

Lola Lirola

They still do it every year! I didn't end the subscription and I still receive the emails from time to time. I agree that it's not really the best way to enjoy the book if it's your first contact, but if you know the story, it's kinda fun to see the progression in real time: oh look! Jonathan just arrived in Transylvania and he didn't like the inn! Sweet Summer child. By November, all the characters are in a big mess, and it's fun.

Lola Lirola

It's a new Dawn, it's a new day!!

Lola Lirola

Aw, no way! I didn't know that!! (All My Children didn't air in my country) So cool. I love when people bring little trivial like that. Thanks!

Lola Lirola

What do you mean?? Clearly Dawn has always lived in the Summers home!

Andrea Krehbiel

How can you not remember Buffy’s sister?! In the immortal words of Sam Reich, “I’ve been here the whole time!”

Tina

Same.

jimmy2k4o .

Seriously guy are you trolling us, how can you not remember dawn. She had some great moments in season 4 She hid from faith when she took Joyce hostage. She had that funny moment with faith in Buffy’s body. She wanted to stay up watching movies with the gang until Joyce made her go to bed in the last episode. What are some of your guys favorite dawn moments from the previous seasons?

jimmy2k4o .

Last season 4x15 Buffy’s dream with faith making the bed. Buffy says she needs to go because, and faith interrupts saying “little sis coming” And in the last episode restless during Buffy’s dream when she talking with Tara and leave, Tara says “be back before dawn”

Harriet Loughnan

Finally you give some attention to Buffy's sister. With how little you talk about her, I doubted if you even knew her name. Dracula was a fun little bit. Because of his inclusion in this show, I got to watch this episode in my high school english class when we were reading Dracula. Best class ever.

Kelsey Krehbiel

My first Michelle Trachtenberg movie memory was Harriet the Spy. She and Rosie O’Donnell were a delight! I had a feeling that you guys would like this campy introduction to the season!

Jontor11

Spolier!! And it was in episode 3x03. But I do think you should rephrase your comment. K & J don't need to know that now.

Mitchell

I don’t think it’s a spoiler since it’s in an ep they’ve seen

Genevieve Clerc

* Buffy has been bitten by the Master, yes,.... but also by Angel, to save Angel's life in the end of season 3. Strong metaphoric sex scene ! * TARA: "You think you know ... what's to come ... what you are. You haven't even begun." Restless S4E22 DRACULA: "You think you know. What you are, what's to come… you haven't even begun. " Buffy vs. Dracula S5E01

vala p

I liked when Dawn made chocolate chip cookies from the left over band candy and everyone was like, " Oh Dawn"

Ashleep

I never knew that about Vlad; thanks for sharing! :D

Carl Wilson

Sorry that you have to put up with all the fandom Dawn jokes now. It was funny once upon a time. ... It is hilarious that you started by saying "no more surprises" though.

Tina

I can't wait for next week!!

Stephanie Bedworth

I always thought this was a bit of a strange episode but I do like Rudolf Martin, the guy who plays Dracula. Oddly enough, he and Sarah Michelle Geller played a couple on the soap opera, All My Children.

Leah W.

I'm so excited to see your reaction this season!!!

Gail Hislop

'Be back before Dawn'-Tara Season 4 finale in Buffy's dream.

James Roberts

Huge continuity error in this episode. When Joyce and Buffy were wrapping up dinner and Joyce mentioned how quiet and lonely the house would be when Buffy went back to school. Uh. Did Joyce just forget about her younger child? Who has definitely always lived there.

TalynOne

Season 4 is not bad in isolation, people are just much bigger fans of season 5+. It's a comparison thing.

Carl Wilson

Yeah, I think it's really Angel's bite that Dracula is talking about here. The show's never dwelled on any aftermath of the quick bite by the Master (the drowning was the big thing), but Angel drank from her to the point she had to go to the hospital.

danzthename

Xander being Renfield always makes me laugh! And Giles with the three sisters. 🤣 It's nice to finally see Dawn again.

Lola Lirola

It's not a spoiler and we're all gonna have fun this season!

Lola Lirola

It's a pity they're not watching Community (yet?? please! it won the poll!) because there's an episode that does a hilarious take on this.

Lola Lirola

I really love Season 4. It has so many of my favourite episodes of the show overall! It's just that Adam is so boring in general.

Cotubug

Michelle Trachtenberg was fairly famous at this point. She was in kid stuff: Harriet the Spy, Pete and Pete, and the Inspector Gadget movie. I was just about the right age when this aired to know who she was! RIP

Cotubug

It’s cute because SMG also knew Michelle Trachtenberg from All My Children and recommended her, so a real reunion episode.

danzthename

I never knew that. That's too funny

Lyla

I clocked that too! An especially funny episode to say that in

Pam Nail

- "No more surprises." LMAO. The comments are about to be pretty annoying, but this is one of my favorite things to see reactors respond to. We gaslight because we love. :P - This is probably my favorite season opener. Such a fun way to bring the most famous vampire ever into this show's specific vampire lore. And then the last scene makes you forget all about the rest of the episode because WHAT?!! - I love the lampshading of no one ever noticing this giant castle on the outskirts of Sunnydale. And that opening with the coffin of dirt is classic (that musical sting!).

GemmaBeeBee

Yes. Plus the comment ‘he let you go’ and Riley talking about Angel transference later!

cruzinbosco

S4 is great, but not in comparison to other seasons. Same for Adam, he's very interesting, just not as great a villain as ones from other seasons. I am sure S4 is someone's favorite, just probably not the majority of fans (as far as I know). For me, the ranking goes: 3, 5, 2, 4, 1, 7, 6. But everyone is different. As for Michelle (who is 14 here): loved her in Harriet the Spy (I think she was 10 and the STAR!), Ice Princess (great ice skating movie), All My Children (yes, like SMG, she's a soap child actress), Gossip Girl, and of course BTVS... sigh. I miss her. She is so talented.

GemmaBeeBee

That time in Season 1 with the invisible girl when Dawn was all like ‘I know the feeling’ right!?

Erica

Im gonna have to wait til morning to watch after work, but thjs isn't that important of an episode so it's okay

ScarlettMi

Pretty sure that Dracula was referencing her being tasted by Angel rather than the Master. I love when Dracula repeats Tara's Restless dream speech: "You think you know what you are, what's to come. You haven't even begun." It starts to really make the moment feel connected to her larger mythology and is the sign that Restless will keep being felt.

Jontor11

Great one guys! Interestingly, Dracula said the exact same thing Tara did in the last dream episode. - "You think you know, what's to come, what you are, you haven't even begun".

vala p

You mean, you'll have to wait until Dawn? 😉

James B.

Ah, the season 5 gaslighting is in full force. It's my favorite Buffy reactor tradition.

Kimba

It may not be the most important part of the episode but I just can’t get over how annoying Riley is in this episode. His comment about transference really bugged me. Don’t be jealous when someone’s under thrall.

Ginevra

You guys should really watch Twin Peaks. At least the first two seasons.

Pam Nail

Pam Nail

So happy to see Dawn again. With Buffy away at college, we've barely seen her since season three!

Onno Smits

Are you following the pReview'd guys reacting to Game Changer? They've been having a blast!

Ginevra

Especially since after he said, "He was unworthy...he let you go."

Ginevra

It is an important episode for foreshadowing.

Ginevra

I just noticed Spike called Dracula a "glory hound." That's pretty funny.

lee

Something about the way Riley punching Xander is shot, acted, and foleyed makes it feel more violent to me than any other blow in this episode. It's played for laughs but I always think "oh that's brain swelling and swallowed teeth". It reminds me of when Spike belted Xander in the head with a big heavy microscope in season 3 and the uncomfortably convincing and dark blood of the resulting makeup job. Giles is obviously the undisputed king of concussions when it comes to sheer amount and frequency, but Xander's had a few horrifically violent yet totally glossed over head injuries that always make me wince and think a non plot armoured person probably wouldn't wake up from them. Also, since you noticed the more intense and elaborate stunt work, this is the debut episode of Sarah Michelle Gellar's new stunt double Michele Waltman who will double her for the rest of the series. Sophia Crawford, her former stunt double, did a lot of amazing work but Michele is a closer match to Sarah in terms of build and age so the fight scenes really level up from here on out. There's some serious action packed slayage ahead and it really benefits from a bigger budget, more seamless doubling, and a stuntwoman with the skill and audacity to pull those WWE moves in the cemetery her first time out. Buckle up! Great reaction as always, so excited to dive back into this season with you guys.

Erica

Nah, not really. Typical monster of the week stuff

Carl Wilson

Agree completely about the S5 fixes to S4 problems. Although S3 (and the second half of S2) will always be my tops.

Carl Wilson

Pretty close to your ranking order here (though I'd go 3, 2, 5 and then the rest).

Carl Wilson

Saying whether it's foreshadowing or not is spoilery, I'd say.

Carl Wilson

Yes, but, but, but ... Season 3 is maybe the greatest work of televisual art of all time? Season 2 would be optional except you need to know what's in it (and Fire Walk With Me) to watch the rest.

Jamie Morgan

I don't know why you guys are so shocked that Buffy has a sister, she was literally in the beginning of this episode having dinner with Buffy and Joyce. She had that great line about the boy she had a crush on? Are you even WATCHING the show??

Jamie Morgan

It's a rite of passage for Buffy reactors, I'm afraid.

Jamie Morgan

Yeah, being sandwiched between seasons 3 and 5 is gonna make any season look worse than it actually is!

Jamie Morgan

For me it's: 5, 3, 6, 2, 4, 7, 1 I can't imagine anyone's list has 3 or 5 in the bottom half!

Paul Komoroski

Was going to mention what Jimmy said, so I'll just second them and add this is my favorite season: LFG!

Erica

Dracula called buffy a killer, which is what riley kept calling her in restless! Interesting through line. I remember hearing at some point that in the writers room, they wanted to bring in an old world vampire, and the phrase "a Dracula type" kept getting tossed around, until someone was like "dracula's public doman, let's just actually use dracula"

Jamie Morgan

When she turned up to Angel's mansion, after he broke up with Buffy, wielding a fully-armed crossbow and convincing him to take Buffy to prom. That adorable little kick she got in when the Mayor ascended. And of course the scandalous secret that got out when Buffy read her thoughts!

Kt B

I thought Brooklyn 99 won that poll? Did they put it in a second poll?

Kt B

Funny, six is my absolute favorite. I don’t feel the need rank the rest of them. It’s 6 and then everything else. I think it’s because Buffy does humor and bonding and themes and growth really well the whole time, but there’s one thing that six does exceptionally well that speaks to my soul. I know for some people, that’s not their cup of tea, and I get it.

Kt B

Look, I get that Dracula uses thrall and reputation to project charisma, but I would have liked to have seen someone play Dracula who was more obviously charismatic. He was just tall. I guess some people dug him, but I would have liked to have seen someone swoon-worthy to make the thrall aspect more relatable. They’ve had half a dozen one-off villains that were more compelling. Oooh, John De Lancie would have been a good choice. Or Andreas Katsulas. Or Hugo Weaving. Somebody with stage presence who could play with dynamics and diction while he smolders. Dunno, maybe they didn’t have the budget for this one-off.

Erica

Oh btw, unrelated to this episode, im sure people have pointed this out, but if you remember in s3's Doppelgangland, when will met vampire willow, we get the line, "that's me as a vampire? Im so evil, and skanky And i think I'm kinda gay." unintentional foreshadowing 💅

Roland

Useful education, thanks!

Roland

There seems to be a lot of hints and possible spoilers being chucked around, please be careful and respectful, folks. (I was only aware that Buffy had a sister introduced in later season(s), and that limited knowledge still puts me ahead of J&K).

Youtalkingtome

I can't wait for all the comments. This season is off too a great start so far

Youtalkingtome

Inspector Gadget! Was a big fan of that when I was a kid. The cartoon as well

yann hollister

I hope no one will spoil anything, this season is so good.. you guys are in for a treat

Roland

You're not wrong, Dracula was disappointingly dull.

Gail Hislop

you aint seen nothing yet. This whole season is peak viewing in the Buffyverse. Gonna love watching along with you guys as it all unfolds.

kosmickrab

I never watched Buffy when it was on but over the years I'd always hear what a great show it was, then you guys started watching and I figured I'd catch up at some point. Then Michelle Trachtenberg passed, and it's one of the few things I knew about the show, that she was in it, so I figured it was time to finally start watching. I think you were four or five episodes in when she passed.

I🖤Kraken

Btw, Zander's "funny syphilis" was from the Thanksgiving episode when the Chumash warrior cursed him with all those diseases like smallpox and yellow fever and syphilis...
