OMG this is such a sweet one and such a classic, too!

James III

Thank you for your reactions to a perfect movie! I just returned from a pilgrimage to Italy and while we were in Rome (thanks to our wonderful guide, Danella) I was allowed to show our group every location that was shot for the movie (with the exception of the embassy and the Wall of Wishes which sadly no longer exists in it original location). The ending is perfect, and I would never change one frame of how the ending played out. I have it on good authority, however, that Princess Ann never forgot she owed Joe 1000 lire and she remembered his address Via Margutta 51 (which still exists and is a couple of doors down from where Picasso once had a studio). So determined was Ann to pay back what Joe loaned to her, she returned to her country and her family and told them the entire true story of what happened to her durning her Roman Holiday. Seeing how much she really loved Joe, Ann's parents gave her their blessing to find Joe, pay back the money she owed him, and bring him home to meet the royal family. As a result, Joe and Ann married (Irving was the official wedding photographer) and they lived happily ever after. Oh, and Joe's boss forgave the $1000.00 Joe owed him as a wedding present.
