Starting from Hartford, how many kropogs is it to the nearest volcano? Maybe if we can lure Emily to the edge…

Knowing that article is still coming out is adding to the tension between Emily and Lorelai as well. Wanted to mention that I liked how Luke stopped himself from thinking he was holding Lorelai back by being opposed to her possibly changing positions to travel in response to her meeting her father’s contact. Dean was trying to get into Luke’s head about the town not being big enough for her, but Luke still supported her. I’m not sure if the show was intentional with having a callback, but Luke was very serious about Rachel in the past, but they broke up because she felt like Stars Hollow was too small for her so it’s like an old wound of his. Then when she came back and tried to convince Luke she would stay, he really didn’t believe her and that relationship failed again. It’s like he’s trying to grow and not stay stuck in that pattern to keep his relationship with Lorelai in a better place.

I think Lorelai has a lot more in common with Logan than she realizes or would like to admit. Logan letting the maid take the heat for the missing knick knack sucks, but Lorelai messing around with the seating chart for the vow renewal actually got the poor wedding planner fired. Game recognizes game 👀

Carl Wilson

Yeah, I hated that with the seating chart - Lorelai knows better but sometimes she reverts to her teenage rebel self.

Ari

I find this episode so infuriating, mostly b/c of the way Lorelai comes crawling back to her mother, and for what? To be the awkward 5th wheel at a dinner that does nothing to help her in getting to know Logan any better. Emily is at her most insufferable here, and that's saying a lot! I also hated Logan's little prank with the sewing box.

Kevin’s future is so bright, he has to wear shades.

Rory-Logan being a parallel to Chris-Lorelai is a pretty common theme that fans notice. Obviously Rory is nowhere near Chris’s level, but there are a lot of subtle details that I will not mention for spoiler reasons.

Logan's trick of taking and replacing something up and down the Eastern seaboard for years has always stuck in my craw. Stealing something like a kleptomaniac is a cry for help. Replacing it with something else feels filled with scorn & derision.

Allison O

Minor note that Emily didn’t go to Yale - hence the joke about her getting kicked off the Smith field hockey team. Yale didn’t admit women until within Lorelai’s lifetime. I don’t love this episode for Logan, it’s not a great look for anyone really.

mad claps

Lorelai has a pattern of putting blame on Rory's boyfriends, where Rory was also an active participant, probably the thing I do not like about her the most. She is saying here, without any knowledge of it, Logan "took" Rory to the backroom to "kiss"- it happened the other way around, if anyone took anyone to the backroom. She phrased it in a way that makes it sound like Rory doesn't have any agency.

sandrinegeller

Honestly I feel like the Logan thing is a very Lorelei thing to do. She is the same person who is always complaining about the stupid materialism of the rich and messing with seating charts at the vow renewal specifically because the rich people are selfish and deserve to be messed with. Like sure it’s an immature and spoiled thing to do, but exactly. He’s a little immature and spoiled and so is she. But he is 22 and she is in her 30s

sandrinegeller

That’s an interesting take on the Lorelei/christopher and Rory/logan comparison. I always hated it because to me Logan doesn’t remind me of Christopher but Rory being Christopher and Logan being Lorelei is fascinating. (Spoilers we won’t mention) kind of create some parallels.

Dani

Number one issue with Lorelai in regards to Rory: she treats her as if she has no agency outside of two times in the series. One coming up end of this season/next season and back when she cheated with Dean. That was literally the only two times I can think of in the whole series she allows for the possibility that Rory makes her own mistakes. It's maddening.

Dani

Yeah Lorelai has had a bias towards Logan and she lets her bias and her discomfort with the parts she doesn't like - his entitlement, his immaturity, his wealth, his laissez-faire attitude towards life - mingle with only hearing from Rory when things aren't going super well with them dictate how she views him. She doesn't actually try to get to know him outside of her already preconceived notions and it's also a ding against him that her parents love him. She projects her discomfort with how comfortable Rory is in her parent's world in many ways onto her discomfort with Logan. She also acts like Rory is a capable, smart, talented girl who apparently has no mind of her own and is easily led by the men in her life. She can do no wrong, only the men in her life. It's incredibly frustrating and it comes in many ways to a head in the next few episodes so can't wait to go down that rabbithole with you guys! Love me some Emily Gilmore but she's insufferable this half of the season.

Dani

Agree. I don't think Logan is anything like Christopher. Never even thought about it but the idea of Logan being like Lorelai and Rory like Chris is actually extremely interesting take because I can see those parallels more.

mad claps

Agreed. I liked how she called out Rory in the Dean situation. She is increasingly comfortable and adamant to put all the blame on Logan though.

mad claps

That is so true! I thought many are comparing Logan with Christopher, I find no similarities and always noticed many parallels with Lorelai and Logan, probably that's why he makes her (Lorelai) so uncomfortable. If Rory is Christopher in the relationship, I can see it.

mad claps

On a lighter note, this always cracks me up: Emily: 'So demure! Isn't she demure, Logan?' Logan: 'The demurest.'

Jonathan

All of the characters seemed a bit over the top this week from Rory being hyper to the gimores being Awful and Lorelai being much more quiet at dinner then you would expect. I blame this being the second of two episodes this season written by the creator of Big Bang Theory

Jonathan

I thought it was a good idea for Lorelai to be at dinner to help diffuse the matchmaking a bit and knowing the situation at the dinner with Logans family she could show the Gilmores have drama too to make Logan feel better. If I were her when Emily was objecting to her being there I would have played up howcod she wasn't there it would make the family look bad.

Jonathan

The comments about last week a situation like what Rory was in is about the only time it is good to bring up how entitled she is when the family was calling her trash. Its not concieted when everyone else thinks they are better than you.

Roland

Although everybody is awful in this episode, except maybe Rory, I do feel a pinch of sympathy for Emily who has Lorelai gatecrashing her special dinner. It's not the regular Friday night meal, and both sides are aware of that. Emily's response to Lorelai's presence is just appalling, and it's honestly painful to watch. Over-written, or plausibly horrific, I'm still working on that.

Yasemin

Love me some decent "Fitty cent" reference lol.

Yasemin

I always hated this desperate Lorelai-move and the way Emily treats her at dinner. It was unnecessary (because hello? Couldn't she just invite Logan over to Stars Hollow separately?), and kind of neutralized her formerly strong stance after what they pulled at the vow renewal. ("I said olive"..."I heard onion"...nothing could have been more predictable. Sorry, you guys were dreaming about character growth there for a minute. :)

Yasemin

Agreed, that wasn't Logan's proudest moment, and kind of tone-deaf, trying to pull it off at his girlfriend's grandparents' house.

Yasemin

I cannot wait for you guys to watch the season finale. And the next episode leading to that one.

Tobias Keezy

It's definitely over-written to some degree. The depth of her limitless contempt for Lorelai doesn't seem realistic to me.

Gail Hislop

Emily's passive aggressive behaviour to Lorelei at that dinner was just next level and vile! And the whole fawning over Logan from both Emily and Richard because his 'breeding' and family meet their expectation for their grandaughter, particularly we have seen in the past how they treated both Dean and Jess, was so cringe ! Logan's prank is one of the few questionable sides of him we've seen so far and I don't know why the writers chose to make that a part of his character, but again I don't blame him for the prank because of all the pretentious crap he was putting up with. On top of having seen Rory being sooooo desperate to please and impress his father that she researched his entire life story!! He is actually being really patient about it all. Considering, as he points out to her, he has a terrible relationship with Mitchum who treats him as a huge disappointment. He's actually a lot more well adjusted than you might expect for a young guy who comes from immeasurable wealth and power but has no respect from his father. And compared to the sycophantic behaviour of the Gilmore's, Lorelai's childish reason for being there and Rory's passive acceptance of it all, he seems the most mature person at that dinner.

Historically, the seven sisters schools like Smith, Vassar, Bryn Mawr were paired with the each of the male ivy league schools and yes, you're absolutely right. Smith's sister school was usually Amherst College.

Carl Wilson

Coming back to this late, but: It's frustrating and baffling to me that after Rory and Logan leave the dinner, Lorelai doesn't bring up the way Richard & Emily are trying to manipulate them into marriage in exactly a mirror image of the way they tried to manipulate Luke & Lorelai *out of it by roping Christopher back in. After the way Emily treats Lorelai at the dinner, she ought to be going back at her with both barrels, not petulantly pointing the finger at Logan. Dammit.

Allison O

I went to Smith :). We’re happy to claim Emily. Yale actually reached out to Smith in the 60s to go coed along with them but Smith (like most of the other Seven Sisters) survived the coed craze. We always said, it’ll never happen as long as Gloria’s alive (RIP) - and at this point we’re probably good.

AudeAudor

Trix knew K0rn, Taylor knows 50 Cent

AudeAudor

I'm reallllly not feeling sympathy for Emily, even given the circumstances. She's still very very wrong and, I agree with you on that, she was appalling to Lorelai. The worst she's ever been imo.

AudeAudor

Logan feels he is entitled, that's why. We know objects, things, don't matter to him cause money was never a problem for him.
