Actuarial Lurker

Barrett is supposed to be an insult comic which was a new thing in the 1960s, but he is B-tier guy not in the "Rat Pack" or anything-so he thinks he can diss the Utz Potato chip owner clients of the firm but as you said in your intro he is no Don Draper so can't get away with this- hence his wife having to intervene. And Utz was and still is a real potato chip company...and back in the 1950s and 6os they DID pay married men more than single guys and still men make more than women- so this is areal thing. It also shows how the younger men are now consulting with their wives when someone like Don or Roger would never let their wives "interfere" with their careers. This is an interesting lead into Bobby Barrett who is a "boss" at using sex as a weapon to be the equals of the men around her- like a more successful Joan

Very familiar with Utz, it's good stuff. I like that he was consulting his wife over it, just wasn't sure where the storyline was going for a second. Bobby and Joan are an interesting comparison. Joan does the same thing to some extent, but Bobby obviously has more success. God this show is so brilliant!

heheheheheh

Guy with glasses is Harry Crane. There is no weak episode of Mad Men imo. Even their 'meh' episodes are miles above the rest of the tv landscape.

Weird Magic

Weird Magic

A lot of shows start strong and then fizzle at the end - Mad Men is one of those that starts strong and gets stronger as it goes along, at least by IMDB rating standards. For this episode - as soon as it's over Joe and Kevin both say "great episode"....and when you look at it in the context of all 92 Mad Men episodes - it is near the very bottom.
