Since in Season 1 Episode 1 Joan sent Peggy to her gynecologist to get the Pill- and the Dr. told her not to be "the toen pump" Peggy expected to be safe....so she didn't expect that Pete could have gotten her pregnant . This is also a bit of postpartum depression mixed in with her giving birth the day that she was named an actual copyrighter

Don compartmentalizes like no one else! And you can tell when he becomes Dick Whitman, his entire demeanor and face changes. That is when you see pathetic Don, like when he saw Rachel Menken.
