"Who's the New Guy?" is one of my favorite songs in the series, and it's unique in not being modeled on an existing style or source -- it's just (as you noticed) a funny 4th-wall-breaking comment on the way savvy modern audiences react to the introduction of a character like Nathaniel: "what's the point of adding a new character so far into the season?" "is he just going to be around for a couple of episodes? are we supposed to care?" "is this an attempt to boost ratings?" while then providing their in-story explanations of words like "character," "season," "episode," or "ratings." Just brilliant. I never noticed until my first rewatch of the series, but Rebecca's obsession with Raging Waters waterpark is a motif throughout the series, starting back in season 1 -- her swoony dream of a perfect day out with a perfect boyfriend.

When I first watched this series I was shocked at the actor who plays Nathaniel. He played a very different role in “Greek” and wasn’t nearly as “polished.” I do love how Rebecca may finally be seeing that Josh is not on her intellectual level- but who knows what’s to come? It’s so hard not to give spoilers about the show- or even upcoming songs!

I love this episode. Nathaniel's digs at Josh are hilarious, and really highlight how on par his is with Rebecca's intellect compared. She's always making quips like that, but Josh doesn't get them nor does he make his own clever comments on things. I'm really excited for the rest of season 2!

Yeah I didn't notice the water park thing until you mentioned it. Really wanna see where they are headed with Nathaniel but if it's headed where we think it is then oh boy.

So good that you are here! Can't wait for you to see the rest of the season. Some of my favourite dynamics take place in late S02 and early S03 and they are both painfully cringey and toxic but also...well, kinda hot :D

Oh yeah, it was a genious move to introduce someone like that right at the moment Rebecca finally gets her "perfect" Josh. It's also interesting how usually Rebecca is kinda the villain and everyone else is mostly nice and good and now there's this heartless guy who just doesn't care if he's liked, not mentioning how noone is actually working there :D
