Mad Men, Season 2, Episode 9

Chris

I think it’s interesting that Jane buys Don shirts from Menken’s and then he later uses the name Tilden Katz (Rachel’s husband) with the casino bouncer. Not sure it adds up to anything other than Don absorbing and using what’s around him in unexpected ways. It’s a testament to the quality of the writing and the respect Weiner has for the audience that these details aren’t underlined or pushed on the viewers.

Second time you've mentioned the perceived weakness of Season 2 - since I keep posting the IMDB ratings it might be fair to do a "Season Average" of the episode rankings to show if it is weaker or not. Season | Avg 1 | 8.1 2 | 8.2 3 | 8.5 4 | 8.7 5 | 8.6 6 | 8.4 7 | 8.6 So basically - the differences in ratings from season to season are pretty negligible, but they do get higher as we move along in the series, which most shows do not (cough Game of Thrones cough),

Marilyn Monroe died on August 4, 1962, and this is episode 9....it was inthe second episode when AA Flight 1 crashed with Pete's Dad on board and that was March 1, 1962...so the opening scene of ep9 was 5 months after the opening scene ep2... so we are going at a clip of about 3 weeks per episode of real time through 1962. JFK of course died on Nov 22, 1963

Allegedly Joe D was a domestic violence perp. An infamous incident was when they got off a plane and the press swamped her for autographs and blew him off since he had already retired from the Yankees. Supposedly he beat her up after that happened out of jealousy. He also allegedly beat her after the infamous scene where she had the subway air blow up her skirt for "being a whore"

Freddy Rumsen is played by actor Joel Murray- the brother of comedian Bill Murray

That was supposed to be World Heavy Weight Champ Floyd Patterson standing next to Jimmy when Don decked him....

Peggy's promotion was from Junior Copywriter to Copywriter- so she has the same rank now as Paul Kinsey- the guy with the Maidenform ad who lives in NJ and that we saw in episode 1 was dating the African American woman who is a supermarket clerk

Didn't even realize the Tilden Katz reference. That's a great catch. Really thought we'd see more of her this season.

Betty has the right to be angry with Don, of course but I don't know if SHE should be the one moving out. I mean Don is paying for the house and everything. Just because of it I think he has every right to stay at his house.
