Interesting conversation you guys had about acting styles. As an actor of 25 years myself, I wanted to give you another perspective. It’s not that film actors are Method and stage actors are not. It’s more a cultural divide than a vocational one. Brian Cox is trained in English theatre, which is much more traditional and skeptical of method acting (as illustrated in the Olivier/Hoffman story), especially among the old guard. Younger actors from that tradition, like Daniel Day-Lewis, are more likely to embrace method techniques. Speaking of Daniel Day-Lewis, he was Jeremy Strong’s mentor for years. Strong worked as his personal assistant and has been open about perceiving that time with Lewis as an opportunity to learn. So Strong is very of the “Method” culture (whatever that means at this point; no one can effectively define Method acting, including the guy who invented it), sort of the logical heir to its public face in fact, and Cox is of the English culture. I am certain it’s not a terribly positive relationship. Everyone in the cast has always commented on Strong’s odd, somewhat off-putting behavior, and Cox seems to have less patience than most. But hey, it’s effective and he’s not hurting anyone, which is more than you can say for a lot of “Method” guys out there (including Dustin Hoffman, honestly).

It's kinda hilarious to me how the donuts were the deciding factor for the kids not wanting to turn on their dad lol

That's a really interesting perspective. I did not know that he mentored under Brian Cox. They're both powerhouse actors and it really adds to the father son dynamic. Dustin Hoffman is a legend for better or for worse and we love his movies.
