Mad Men, Season 2, Episode 12

Chris

When this episode first aired, I thought it was anticlimactic after the season-long build up (who did he mail Meditations in an Emergency to in episode 1, who was the woman who confronted him at the dealership in episode 7, etc). But your discussion made me appreciate it a lot more. And I never noticed that Don’s arms in the ocean are in the same position as the woman in the popsicle ad. The ritual and resurrection etc. Interesting

Anna

I love Anna so much, she's such a strange prism to see a relaxed and open Don through

The thing I love most about this show is how real it feels. These feel like people who really existed. I find myself wondering what became of them all, even now, long after the series ended. And to me, the relationship between Anna and Don feels incredibly real, paradoxically because it is so unlikely. It is strange and miraculous in the way that life can so rarely be, but absolutely IS. Everyone should have an Anna.

Actuarial Lurker

Don is from rural OH and his father moved to PA to get better farming opportunities due to the Depression- so the "Hobo Code" is in rural PA

Keep in the back of your mind...why are Roger, Don, Freddie, and Duck severe alcoholics?....

Did not notice Don's arms. This episode was very thoughtful and intentional. Don is a very lost guy. Can't wait to see him come back to New York.

Everyone should have an Anna. She's a great character! Life very often is stranger than fiction and sometimes you make the most uncanny friends.

heheheheheh

Ah, I keep refreshing this page for the Mad Men updates. Can't wait for the finale!
