When it comes to the drug war, two brilliant shows that would fit great on this channel are Narcos (the first two seasons that deal with Escobar) and Zero Zero Zero (about the more current cocaine trade, based on a book by Roberto Saviano, who also wrote Gomorrah, which was made in a more raw show about the Mafia in Naples)

Here we are guys, we started THE saga, we started THE series of episodes Bartlet's Third State of the Union is the prelude, the match that starts the fire in these episodes, and you're all ready to face it I'll keep more detailed comments for later, but I applaude you for the attention to details you show every time a new scene, a new moment or and old argument comes on screen You're doing EVERYTHING right, continue like that PS: She's hot in the other sense too lmao

This episode and (*tries to be vague*) what follows is one of the many high points of the season. Stockard Channing is ON FIRE here, and I love that you spend most of the episode wondering what on earth is in that clip she keeps rewatching that is making her so angry. I love that it's not the Blue Ribbon thing anything that the men in the episode think it is. She's not stupid and she knows exactly what they're doing. The Ainsley thing hasn't aged that well -- at least Sam's suggested remarks. Ainsley was the original incarnation of the "Blonde Republican Sex Kitten" trope (see TV Tropes) and Sam's suggested badinage seems condescending at best. But then when the President repeats it word-for-word it's HYSTERICAL to me because it actually sounds SARCASTIC. "They were obviously wrong," as she's standing there in a robe having thrown her cocktail in the air!

Me; "TWO NIGHTS AFTER THAT" - a lot of people object to that sort of trailing, but it is hard to bury the hype on this.

This is the first time I’ve put it together!! In Josh’s flashback in the season opener, Hoynes (when running for President) says that “social security is the black hole of national politics” — past Josh tells him that it’s vital, but Hoynes refuses to talk about it because it’ll hurt his election chances. NOW, the President authorizes a change in the speech that removes the same type of language Hoynes was afraid of — in so doing, telling the First Lady that he wants to run again. Love it.

Dang new MAX not showing the "previously on" bits lol.

We have both seen Narcos! Love it but fizzles out after season 2. However, Zero Zero Zero we are unfamiliar with.

Always interesting to hear the themes of the show (such as racial discrimination and gun violence) discussed from your points of view, as I am in the UK. Also how things have evolved or not changed at all from when the show aired til now.

That's what we love about this channel is the different perspectives everyone has from all over the world. Yes many things have changed since this aired but it is still very relevant.

Had a crazy week, had no chance to watch this till now. Ooooh, but I'm so happy I watched your reaction now! This is such a great episode, things are really piling up. (Also, this was the episode, plus the next one, where I had small scratches on my DVD discs, and couldn't play part of the ep. The horror!) The issues were all interesting for me (as a non-American). I wonder if Toby's stats about homicides in US vs composite of many strict-gun-control countries are true. It sounded shocking.

Rewatching with you guys has confirmed West Wing is a very solid #2 in my top 5 of all time, I doubt it will move up or down from there ever.....soooooooo gooooooood. An 8.2 on IMDB and it's the 17th best episode of the season...smh. Originally airing on February 7, 2001, 'Bartlet's Third State of the Union' is Episode 13 of Season 2 of The West Wing. It is the 35th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.2, placing it as the #17 ranked episode of this season and #22 out of all the episodes shown so far.
