Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Season 3, Episode 6

My brother shows signs from all eight personality disorders. And he doesn't even know what his diagnosis is. He refuses to know (that has to do with what he has). So Rebecca reminds me a lot of my brother.

According to the show's creators, they hadn't been thinking in terms of a specific diagnosis for Rebecca until the hiatus before Season 3. Then they knew they would have to commit themselves, so they consulted with mental-health professionals, who "diagnosed" the character based on her behavior in the series up to that point. And they discovered that she fit BPD perfectly, so that's what it became.

I was diagnosed with BPD about 7 years ago, Rebecca story I can really relate to, the show does a good job, You Ruined Everything really sums up the self loathing when you are spiraling. My favourite song from the show is Greg's I gave you a UTI

I have multiple friend who've been diagnosed with BPD, and I recommended this show...and they ALL love it and relate to it. "My Diagnosis" is a song that seems to be one that resonates a lot. On the other hand "This is My Movement" is just hilarious; as a genuine inspiration song it totally works and sounds good, but the double entendre makes it perfect.

Also, as many times as I've rewatched this show, this time was the first time I noticed that as Rebecca started singing "My Diagnosis" you can see Paula in the background folding up the teal tracksuit that Rebecca was wearing at her mom's house and later on the plane. There's some symbolism there....

It's really a great show. The music numbers, the acting, all the character arcs. When I started watching it for the first time, I did see myself in Rebecca more often than I liked (I did move for a guy who didn't want me when I was 18 and obssesed about him a lot, so that was embarassing). I've been in so much pain my whole life and always wondered what's wrong with me. Nothing seemed to fit. It wasn't just depression and anxiety and "sex addiction". The songs says it all. I love it. Before this show, I thought I'm just too broken and will never get better. I heard about BPD, but described as "seeing world black and white" and that wasn't what I thought I was doing. But after this episode, I learned more about it and in the end, I did get into therapy for the first time in my life, because finally I thought, maybe I have a diagnosis and can get a treatment. Now, I'm not cured, but I'm better and most importantly, I started to really accept myself and not blame myself for everyone else's actions. I used to be so desperate to make men like me, thought I couldn't survive alone, and excused all of their shitty behavior. I don't want to do that anymore. I don't know if I'm ever gonna find somebody and be able to stay healthy in a relationship and all of that... but damn, I sure would like to find someone like Nathaniel :D Minus the murdering grandpas thing probably... but yeah, he seems like the most healthy option for her. He cares about her, but is stable enough to not be that bothered by her behavior. Also, did you notice that he's the only one she's been herself with? Since she wasn't that interested in him, she didn't pretend to be cool or cute or whatever like with Josh and Greg. He already knows who she is. And likes her anyway. That's beautiful.

One thing about "My Diagnosis" that I hadn't really clocked on first viewing but was interesting on rewatch was that for all that the song suggests epiphanies and closure and problems solved, when you consider how much of her issues have been some version of "not knowing who she is" and looking to quick fixes (men) to remedy that... This song is really more of that isn't it!

That's actually really cool and smart. I'm sure there were tons of medical professionals watching the show going "WE KNOW WHAT'S WRONG!"

The double entendre was amazing. I recommend this to everyone! It's very relatable and I think it can create empathy for people who are really struggling.

One of the best part of the show is his character development. It really has been a treat watching him grow. Also we all deserve someone who is so into us that they would murder our ex's grandpa...

"She's been a good friend to have around despite the fact that she's been a terrible friend to have around" is the best sum-up, and I salute you.

What really hit me HARD was when she said "I didn't even wanna die, I just wanted the pain to stop" cause I have been there before unfortunately

Youtalkingtome

That was a tough moment, but you hang in there! You are incredible and we are all lucky to have you here.
